tricks/tips for the CR section

I was wondering if any of you guys had tricks/tips for getting high scores on the CR section. or should i just read more every day?

my math + writing sections are pretty good but my CR section brings my overall grade down.

so if you guys have any suggestions i`d appreciate it. =)

Yea I'm just like you... My math are in the 700s and writing is in the high 600s but critical reading is only in the high 500s... can't get over the hump of 600..

Read Read Read. Grab a book you actually enjoy and read. Try to get into higher level literature. You could also try reading a few newspapers if you don;'t have the time to read novels. Thats truly the best technique for improving CR. UNofrtunately I don't know of any quick and easy tricks to raise your score. Perhaps underlining important parts of the passage can help. Concentrating on what you are reading is also very important. During my first SAT I absolutely spaced out during half of my passages simply because they weren't interesting ( I scored 690). I started reading mroe. In the next SAT I underlined the parts I deemed important and I concentratred ( the passages were actually incredibly interesting), bam I scored 800. The third time , i tried concentrating on the passage, but these were just lame. Still, I avoided spacing out as much as possible, and I scored 750. So I honestly believe a lot depends on your level of concentration.

Definitely read more! Classic lit, NY Times, stuff like that. I would say Shakespeare but that stuff kills my RC skills altogether! LOL.

I like to read a paragraph or so then answer the questions that I can based on that (but don't be too hasty about it..if you're not sure then continue reading). I also see if any questions reference lines (I don't read the question itself) and quickly underline those in the passage before I even read. And I also like to underline stuff that I find important to keep me awake and so I can kind of tell where the passage is heading.
