If anyone could lend their opinion I would really appreciate it, I am applying to CSUF this Fall 15 semester from a local CC. I am an older returning student in recovery from alcoholism, but as a result of that life I had a lot of bad grades from my early 20s. I got academic renewal on as much as I could, and have gotten all As in school since my return a year ago. So it comes out to 9 classes with As over that time. I’m a psychology major, I intend to work with alcoholics and addicts to provide therapy and support in the future and this is the path I must take to see that through. As for extra things I do, I am very active in my program and do a lot of volunteer work in that, but also in working with homeless. I joined the PTK honor society and the local Psi Beta honors in psychology club, it’s the CC version of Psi Chi, I am treasurer right now. So that is where I stand at this point, now here are the numbers … not so great but it’s the best I can do.
Fall 15 Application Deadline GPA 3.32
Any psych majors from CSUF here that have any advice or comments about the program, I would especially love to hear from you. I also just want to hear from anyone, I need some feedback. Thank you !!!
English Major here, with a 3.0 (3.6 Transferrable) GPA.
I am also a member of PTK, but not in (m)any campus groups. I only work at the Writing Center.
I got accepted in to CSUF back in Dec. and will attend in the fall.
Couple of comments:
First of all your goals are very admirable and congrats overcoming something so hard.
Okay, so as far as your GPA goes there is this…every school has a min GPA req. Then each major/school within that college will have its own GPA req (often higher than the school min). Now, it goes further than that; if there are many applicants to that specific major, they will raise the min reqs because of ‘competition’ and, of course, the GPA req with this goes up. This is one way they determine who to accept. This is why it helps to apply as early as possible.
Which leads me to my last point…I was just trying to figure out how you would be attending CSUF in the fall, if deadlines are already passed/passing. (They’re already giving out reg dates) You can apply as early as Aug 1st for the Spring 16 semester. Now, with that said, requirements are higher for Spring transfers.
Wishing you the best of luck. <3
Hey thank you for your reply! The counselor told me shouldn’t be a problem for me to get in, but you know how counselors tend to offer varying opinions on particular issues. Anyways I am applying for admission in fall 2016, and am simply applying this fall as early as possible. Its 1 year in advance right?
@BackNSchool83 Yes, if you are aiming to transfer Fall 2016 you’ll be applying 1 year in advance. The application cycle for Fall 2016 will open on October 1st of this year. As CriticalLit mentioned, you could apply for Spring transfer, but I believe it is open for select majors only. You can check the filing status here at https://secure.csumentor.edu/filing_status/ on Aug 1st and see if your major is available for Spring.
Sounds like you’re making great progress. Good luck!
