I haven't taken trigonometry since the first semester of my junior year. This year I took Calculus and did fine. However, I just took the trig placement exam and got a 7/15. I DID review for it, but apparently not enough....does this disqualify me for Calculus I?? I am a pre-pharmacy major and really can't afford to get behind on classes.

I think it does but you will have to see when you sign up.

Honestly, everyone i know who took Calculus got a 15/15 so you may be in for a tough tough time if you do take Calculus I. I don’t intend to be mean saying that AND like i have no idea what your math SAT’s or other relevant info but calculus is definitely not an easy class.

Not sure how this works, but I was enrolled in Calc 1 and never took the trig placement test.

^ You must have been one of those who scored above a certain threshold on their math SAT and were exempt from taking the placement test as a result. At least that’s what I hear from my son, who decided on that basis that he doesn’t need to take any of the placement tests. I’d better have him double-check…

Some colleges within Pitt do not require the Trig/Algebra/Math tests if you have a 600 or higher Math SAT score. All engineering students are required to take the Trig test.

If i got a 13/15 on the test will I get placed into calc? Thanks

I got a 670 on the math SAT and a conditional guarantee into the pharmacy program. I was exempt from the algebra placement test but there was no way to be exempt from trig…maybe it depends on your major.

did u use a calculator on it?

I used a calculator on one problem to multiply and divide more quickly…

In case people are still wondering, here’s what we were told by the School of Arts and Sciences. Anybody who wants to sign up for Calc 1 has to take the trigonometry placement test. However, if you took AP calculus in high school and got credit for it (meaning a 4 or 5 on the AP test), then you can sign up for Calc 2 instead of Calc 1, in which case you don’t need to take the trigonometry placement test.

i just took the exam but when i click the trig placement exam on courseweb again, it brings me back to the page as if i haven’t taken the exam yet. it doesnt show my score. is something wrong?

Just so everyone knows, I had my Pittstart and my advisor didn’t even look at the trig placement exam. SAT scores were good so I am now enrolled in Calc.

You have to get a 7 to test out of trig so you can take PreCalc. If you do really good then Calc

Not necessarily. Like I said, my advisor didn’t even look at it. I got a 7 and I’m enrolled in Calc.

The placement exams don’t necessarily qualify you for classes. They are just some type of guidelines for your adviser to more easily place you into classes. They understand that a lot of people haven’t done things from the algebra and trig placement exams for quite a bit of time. I’m definitely in that boat for the algebra placement exam.
