Trig placement exam

I know this is kind of a specific question, but does anyone know if I have to take the trig placement exam if I have already taken AP Calculus in high school. I am planning on taking calculus at Pitt so I'm not sure if I need the placement exam or not. Thanks in advance.

Check with your advisor to be sure. My son took pre-calculus and calculus AB but won’t know the results of his AP exam before he registers. He says he has to take the exam in order to take Calculus I, and get a 4 or 5 on the AP to switch to Calculus II.

This is my understanding. My son might know a little better, so I will ask him to post here.

Okay, I double checked with my son and he says this is what he thinks but he doesn’t KNOW.

If you are in the UHC you can email the advisors and they can tell you. They have been very responsive when my son has contacted them.

Alright, thank you. I’m in UHC so I’ll definately ask. It just seems really redundant to have to take it since Ive already been in Calculus for 2 years.

I believe it depends upon your major. Engineering majors had to take all the math placement tests but some of the other majors didn’t have to.

MTnest is right:
I took BC calc with a 5 my junior year and when I got to pitt I still had to take the math placement & trig placement exams (redundant to the max). But I’m in engineering and everyone has to do it. Not sure about other majors. If it is up on your courseweb to take, then take it. Better to take it and not have it count than to not take it and take it at your pittstart at like 8 AM.

My major (pre-Pharmacy) requires calculus so I guess I’ll be taking it. Oh well. Its only 25 minutes. I’ll probably be able to finish it pretty quickly.
