Wesleyan is on a semester calendar -- not trimester.

I believe the College of Social Studies (CSS) and the other interdisciplanary College are both on trimesters.

the calendar you probably looked at was the main wesleyan calendar- the semester one- and thus not pertaining to the CSS trimester one

donpon, I had asked a question comparing Carleton vs. Wesleyan, and that's when the trimester comment was made; Carleton is on trimesters whereas Wesleyan is semesters.

True enough. My D's best friend from HS is at Carleton. She has been home since Thanksgiving. Goes back on Jan. 2, I believe.

Any input on the similarity/differences in their experiences? I'm curious; I've sent out my RD application to both schools, though (however scorned I'll be in this forum for saying this!) my so-called gut feeling leans closer to Carleton.

You should probably follow your gut. Everything I know or have heard about Carleton suggests that it is remarkably like Wesleyan with the possible exception of location; Carleton obviously is in the middle of rural Minnesota; Wesleyan is in the middle of a fairly busy, small municipality.

the way the academic experience in CSS is structured doesn't affect when they get to take their breaks. CSS kids go home just like everyone else at the normal times... just to make sure that's clear!

I would also stress the value of going with your gut. I went with mine and ended up at Wes and couldn't be happier :D But different colleges are "perfect" for different people, so if Carleton just feels right, there's a good chance it is :D
