I read somewhere recently that at Dartmouth, they do trimesters instead of semesters, leading to different break times than other schools..

is this actually true?

Yes. We sort of have quarters, but the fourth term is during the summer. The result is that we start later than other schools and finish a bit later (I think). Our breaks are also not exactly the same, but roughly coincide a bit - e.g. this year for Christmas we got off around the 13th or 14th, and school starts again on the 7th for us.

That's not too bad - I interpreted it at first as having entirely different breaks than other schools. Just as a general question...have you liked your experience at Dartmouth so far? My dad's an alum, but he hasn't been there in 40 something years, so it's a lot different from when he went.

Yes. Dartmouth is wonderful. Some things (e.g. language drill) are a pain in the ass, but overall I have no regrets about coming to Dartmouth.

Approx 20% of four-year colleges are on the quarter system, including the UCs (except Cal), Stanford, & Chicago.

aim14, basically everyone I've talked to loved Dartmouth. I don't think you'll have to worry about that or the D-Plan.

yeah.. i have to agree with sneamia.. :)

I LOVE Dartmouth--I'm a '10 (a sophomore) and even though some say that your freshmen year is the best (coz you're so excited about college, and then the excitment dies w/ the amt of work you have.. :P), I've found that I love Dartmouth more and more through my time here. It gets to the point where I can't wait to get back after 2 weeks of vacation.. haha, like now :)

I've met AMAZING people. Engaged, passionate people who absolutely love what they're doing. And this goes for both professors and students. And who are friendly and actually care.

Dartmouth is also beautiful. Fall, winter, spring, all beautiful. Love being able to go hiking... love the space and the hills.

And.. ohh, i don't know, I just love it. It's definitely not perfect, but it was the right place for me :) haha.. i could go on forever, can you tell?

I have to agree with everyone else's general consensus.....Dartmouth may not be perfect, but I absolutely love it, and would rather be nowhere else.

And during the admissions process they are very kind to legacies.
