Carolyn,

Thanks for the advice. I definately will be applying for financial aid. I never knew about the profile part or the extra costs that go with it. To be honest, I haven't really given a lot of thought about all the deadlines and things that you have to have in the application. I know that I need it, but the process of actually getting it is a mystery to me.

I guess I've been putting that part on my parents, since they know more about our financial situation than I do, but I'm starting to realize that it might not be such a good idea.

I'm going to start looking up how much aid my schools offer. This information plus my planned visits should really help narrow down the field.

Some of those schools are really reaches. Nice highschool stats, but when I comes to those standarized tests... not your best spot. That may cost you. But considering your ethnicity, it might be a bonus.

Thanks, I try, I try.;)

I know it's my test scores that are killing me and I hate that. It's crazy though because my score of 29 is the third highest of my class. The highest was a 31. Some of my friends were talking about what it takes to get into the ivy league schools and they all thought that if anyone could get in, it would be me. I tried to tell them that there are people out there with perfect scores that don't even get in, but they didn't really believe me.

If they would only visit this site...

How would my ethnicity cause my low test scores to be a bonus? If my score went up to a 30 or a 31 would that make much of a difference?

I think what he/she meant to say was that, as a minority, the scores may not hurt you as much as you think as opposed to them being a "bonus" which is incorrect.

Keep Northeastern. You would likely get a free ride and the school is buidling a new African American Institute on campus which is going to be amazing (opens in the fall). Take a look:

Yea, I was thinking about keeping Northeastern anyway because they offer so much financial aid and it has a good engineering program. This new institute makes it even better.
