Trinity College Class of 2027 Official Thread

Wow, our sons sound very similar in their stats and engagement with the school.

Daughter accepted, 3.6 UW (school does not weigh), very strong essay and ECs. She toured and interviewed. Weā€™ll be attending an accepted student event in April. Congrats to those who got in.

Did you apply early decision? Most full aid is going to be given in the early rounds.

Question for others accepted-- When we tried to access my S23ā€™s financial aid package today, it was hard to find in the financial portal. Then it didnā€™t seem to be well-explained and laid out in an easy to understand format compared to the tuition & fees, as it has been at the other schools my son was accepted at. However, the grants he was awarded (assumedly for financial need?) were much larger than at the other schools. :tada: Anyone else have similar experiences?

Exact same experience! The ā€œaward letterā€ looked like it was written in a 5th grade computer class, LOL. But the awarded amount was substantial compared to others.

Same experience for my daughter. The award amount was significant. However, there was no additional explanation (unlike other colleges). I am assuming Trinity will send a more formal explanation later with clarification. Is this a four year package? Are there other forms of financial aid (loans, grants)?

Same here. Another college followed up with hard copies of the acceptance letter and a breakdown of the merit award. Iā€™m hoping Trinity will do the same.

Relatedly, if your children are seriously considering Trinity, what other schools are they choosing between, and how are they making the decision?

S is considering Trinity, Bowdoin and Hamilton. He spent a weekend at each with friends who go there. Heā€™s a curious, bright, kind kid but also very sociable. These are all great fits. What strikes me as a parent: Iā€™ve not met an alumnus of any of these schools who doesnā€™t rave about his or her experience there. I encourage a visit as the surroundings are different, and that matters to many.

My wife and I are from CT, but live in the Bay Area. Daughter is leaning towards staying in CA (Santa Clara, Cal Poly, LMU, many UC waitlists) or CT since we have many family members there (Trinity, Connecticut College). We all have about 5 weeks to decide, so not an easy time. Are you looking at others besides Trinity in the Northeast?

Wonderful choices! I offered to take my son back for another visit (heā€™s also considering Brandeis, so we could visit Boston on the same trip), but he declined. I think heā€™s burned out on the whole process by now. Heā€™s going to do a bunch of virtual events across schools instead. I sure hope those are helpful. Other schools heā€™s considering seriously are Oberlin and American.

We are from Raleigh, NC.

All are good choices. I went to Trinity, and many relatives went to other NESCAC colleges (Tufts, Wesleyan, Bates?ā€“I think). The small campus setting is definitely a right fit for certain kids. One of our neighbor kids is now a junior at Alabama, and the way he describes his experience at a big college is quite the opposite of a small liberal arts school (and he loves it). It really is about finding the right fit for each student.

i thought i read on another thread your dc applied ed 1 to bowdoin. suprised considering others.

Yes, ED1 deferred then accepted

Heā€™s an athletic walk on and at the mercy of the coaches at this point.

what do you mean? are you saying that he wants to be sure he can walk on a team?

Following this convo. My son also wants to walk on. He was recruited at another D3 (XC/track), accepted and has a spot on the team, but heā€™d love the opportunity to run at Trinity. Does anyone know how that works? He reached out to the coaches by email last week to express interest, but Trinity is on spring break until Monday and he hasnā€™t received a response yet, understandably.

Based ED on promised walk on opportunity but not sure itā€™s happening at this point. :crossed_fingers:t2:

Yes, I got a full ride but it was detailed as simply a university grant.

Yes! My son also got all tuition coveredā€”just listed as a Trinity grantā€”which is just craziness. This is certainly less than our FAFSA, so itā€™s confusing. A good thing of course, but we donā€™t know if we can count on it for future years.

Yeah I received an email march 15th from my admissions counselor and he said he knew my acceptance to trinity was contingent on my package and that I should stay patient so I think fin aid was just running behind this year and a better letter should come soon. I received a separate letter for admittance to one of the summer programs as well as one for the kelter scholars. Iā€™d keep double-checking for an added file to the ā€œview updateā€ button.
