Trinity College -Ct. and Engineering

Is there anyone who has attended Trinity in Ct speak on engineering at Trinity, livng at, and the environment around the college? What should a student attending Trinity expect after classes and on the weekends?

Thanks

I have a couple of friends that have attended Trinity. The Enginnering department is small, but there is a lot of personal attention and great facilities. My friends enjoyed it a lot for it's programs and diversity.

As for the more general questions, Trinity has a lot of opportunities to intern as it is the state capitol, as well as volunteer activities. Although Trinity is know to be a 'rich kids' school, it does attract a diverse student body. And, Trinity is great about financial aid.

After classes, there are "late nights" usually at at least one of the coed social houses until 2 am on Tuesdays (although there seems to be little pressure to drunk, although many do), and many parties on Friday and Saturday nights. Trinity College Activity Council sponsors non-alchoholic events, and the school sponsors comedians and bands. There is always something to do on-campus.

Crew is big, as are sports in general. When I visited, we sat on a bump and could watch several sports competitions from that spot. Also, there is an on-campus cinema that plays current movies and art house films. They have The Bistro, where you can use meal plan points at, as well as The Cave, if you like good junk food.

The first-year dorms tend to be pretty good, especially the ones close to the Dinning Hall, or in the Quad.

Anyhow, I hope this helps a bit. :)

Other engineering schools to consider are Lafayette, Lehigh, Bucknell and Union which all have a similar aspect of Trinity. Of course, there are other schools such as WPI and RPI which have less of the "social" aspects. Larger schools include U Illinois, Villanova, UConn, Ga. Tech, Va. Tech, Cornell, Rochester, Missouri, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Thanks for the detailed feedback Blainko and Collegeparent. The college was never considered in my D's search and never visited but she may have an opportunity to attend but I have seen many negative reviews regarding the immediate location.

The location is okay. The 6-7 times I stayed over, my friends and I had no problems, although I must admit, most kids stayed on campus, or made use of the free shuttle. All you do is call, and in about 5 minutes they pick you up or drop you off at the grocery store, video store, etc...they have great campus security too. Trinity is a collge that is gated, as opposed to an open campus. Also, the area is is now surrounded mostly by small law offices and homes--due to former Trinity President Dobell's and Gherity's gentryfication of the surrounding area. Of course, about 5-6 blocks away is ghetto, although there have been very few incidents of students walking around there.

Also, Umoja house is a great place to hang out, and students tend to be friendly.

Just a few more thoughts.

Also look at Tufts --

My d and I visited in September. As we were approaching I kept thinking NOW it's going to get really ghetto-ish, but I never saw anything that scared me. I loved the campus and think it would be a great place to spend 4 years. I've heard wonderful things about the professors. You should check it out!

I have one child there who is having a great time - academics very challenging but also there are a great many social activities on weekends - dances, parties, lectures, fabulous moviehouse with top films that paky all week long. Lots of community service opportunities is that's what interests you. has three friends who are in engineering - all very bright, turned down other LAC's with good enginerring programs for Trinity and seem satisfied.
