where does trinity fall in rank w/ other LAC's?

Are ivy grad schools familiar w/ Trinity in pschology( not sure which vein of psych yet, d is a freshman undergrad) and/or classics dept? If my d excelled in gpa and had good gre scores and adequate research during undergrad at Trinity will the ivy grad depts willingly consider her app and will she be competetive w/ other applicants graduating from top Lac's too?

I would say Trinity is right on the cusp of Top 25 LAC. Probably right in front of Connecticut College, Bucknell & Holy Cross and right behind Oberlin, Hamilton & Bates. I don't know specifically about psych, but in general, doing well @ Trinity would make one competitive for top grad programs. Not a slam dunk, but in the running.

Luliztee- most of the ivies dont even have accredited clinical psych grad programs- the only ones that do are upenn and yale (which accepts approx. 3 out of 800 applicants).
however, grad schools think very very highly of the NESCAC schools, and your D should not have a problem in getting in to a program (although clinical psych phd programs are the most selective programs to get into, with a nationwide acceptance average of ~5%.)

in terms of prestige/quality, Trinity is thought of as grouped together with colby, bates, vassar, conn coll, hamilton, grinnell, colgate, macalaster, barnard. (from the mouth of several admissions people)

I looked that up and you are correct. UPenn first w/ Yale second............man......tough odds of acceptance...Yale accepts 4 and UPenn 15-20.

She also is interested in classics, english and history, and her love.. art. Lol...perhaps she will choose one of those to specialize in....better odds..more openings for applicants?

Huskem....I saw on a different post that you mentioned you work/or live(?) in Hartford CT. What can you tell me about the safety there( curious as a mom of an 18yr old D) And what kind of work do you do(if you don't mind me asking) I remember you telling me you are a Conn Coll grad. What did you study there and did you go on to grad school after? If so, Which one?

I'm sorry if i sound nosy, I'm just curious since my D loved Conn Coll but did not get accepted instead she was accepted to Trinity and is happy anyway w/ Trinity at least from what she knows of it w/o attending yet.

Did you interact at all w/ Trinity kids since they are both schools in CT?

I'm from the Hartford area, not currently living there, but I am quite familiar with what goes on in Hartford (I read the Hartford Courant every day from cover to cover). The area that most of the crime is commited is not anywhere near the Trinity area- Trinity is near to Hartford Hospital (top hospital in CT), the Capital, the Court House, and other high profile places, so the area is very well used and patrolled by the police. I cant recall any notable incidents happening at or near Trinity, and I know that people have not felt unsafe during their time at the school. The Trinity campus safety does a very good job.

As for me, I was a psych major at Conn, got my Masters in psych from Columbia, and now have a great job working on a Yale research study (in psych as well) before hopefully getting into a PhD program.

I personally never really interacted with Trinity students while at Conn, but several people have, doing community service projects, athletics, and all sorts of committees on CT education issues, etc.
