Trinity College or Carnegie Mellon??..

I'm interested in studying political science or international relations and have earned a spot in the Urban and Global Studies program at Trinity (like an honors program) and a spot in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for Carnegie Mellon, having trouble decidingg

which would you recommend?

Consider:

  1. Money
  2. Locations are very different
  3. Did you talk to profs at either school?
  4. Size: CMU is much larger than Trinity
  5. Student body- quite different
  6. Where did you feel the most comfortable…What is your gut feeling right now?

Play this game with yourself…Choose one school and live with it for a day…then ask yourself if you wish you’d chosen the other…or does it feel right? If you think it feels right, change your choice and live with that one for the day.

That method helped me know exactly where I wanted to go. Good luck!

^^ great response MM.

If you make time to visit these last couple of days, that may give you some ideas.

I, also, was faced with the decision of choosing between Trinity College and Carnegie Mellon.

I went with Carnegie…mostly because I preferred the general atmosphere and size–and location. I’m not too well versed on the programs you specified, though. Best of luck in your decision!

thank you for the replys!!

Music Muse:

  1. Money:
Full Rides at both except 5000 in loans at Carnegie and only 3500 in Trinity
  2. Locations are very different.
I would say I slightly preferred the environment of Pittsburgh but see much more opportunities in Hartford. Which would you say are more safe/entertaining?
  3. Did you talk to profs at either school?
Not enough to make this a significant factor.
  4. Size: CMU is much larger than Trinity
    I prefer Trinity’s smaller, more close-knit, environment.
  5. Student body- quite different
VERY MUCH!! Though I would never like to put labels. Its almost universally known that Trinity has an amazing nightlife but was also wondering if this was available at Carnegie Mell?..(even if not to such a large scale)

Additional Questions

I guess I’m faced with a major question regarding both schools.
Trinity: How well are the academics recognized?
Carnegie Mellon: Are there as great opportunities for political science majors? I also saw that in wsj’s ranking of top feeder schools Carnegie is #51 while Trinity is #42 so are these few spots reserved only for the BMEs at Carnegie?..

CMU. Its a very international school, with a very good grad school of public policy. Maybe the factbooks can aid in your decision, [Carnegie Mellon Factbooks - Institutional Research & Analysis - Carnegie Mellon University](http://www.cmu.edu/ira/factbook/index.html)

Congratulations on the scholarship, this university doesn’t give out many.
