I'm looking for some inside info from current students....I'm a rising senior at a Ct prep school. I'm an ED1 football recruit who wants to major in Econ and have a great student athlete experience (maybe study abroad). My school list was like 20 + but after allot of visits w coaches, prospect days, tours and info sessions I've narrowed the list to 1. Trinity 2. Colby. I like the idea of playing football in the NESCAC's bc I can pursue other opportunities.

Looking for inside scoop on social scene, football experience and academics .

S was accepted at Trinity and planning to go until he got into Colby from the waitlist. He went to Colby and felt really relieved over the next four years that he’d had the opportunity to do so. That’s not to say Trinity isn’t a fine college–I think for my son the advantages of Colby had more to do with the social scene and the people there, who seemed more outdoorsy, athletic and less preppy–even though some people also think Colby is preppy. He also thought the academics, food, facilities and grounds were better at Colby. He loved the professors and made great friends at Colby–had a great time while being very successful academically and in a sport. Trinity’s location in Hartford was not a draw for him, but I do give the college credit for working to improve that community. However, Colby also offers a lot of opportunities to volunteer in Waterville and he did a lot of that. The problems in Waterville are real but it isn’t an urban, inner-city environment and didn’t feel to him as depressing or potentially dangerous as Hartford.

Thanks so much for taking the time. I feel very comfortable at both schools…SO FAR; love both coaching staffs, like both campuses for different rerason ( Colby gorgeous, Trinity really nice too and only 1 hour from home). Academic cache better at Colby.

I do go to a prep school now but am not a huge party guy, and love my school but would like a more friendlier scene. I like Colby not having frats to be honest but I love Trinity’s also. I will be taking overnight trip to both hopefully and get a feel for the school, kids and players I will be spending allot tof time with…thanks again

beast58, I am looking at the same two colleges, for the same reasons. I would love to continue to play sports in college but also have a social aspect making d3 schools perfect for me. I am a recruit for tennis and recently I did an overnight at Colby. I was planning on applying Early Decision 1 to Colby, but this overnight solidified my choice even more. The people on the team and everyone I met could not have been more nice to me, making me truly feel like I was already a part of the school. Everyone there is so friendly. There was obviously partying, and I am not an extreme out of control partier, but I had a blast at the parties I attended. They could kind of be considered like a very large social gatherings with lots drinking games and people talking. I actually got the chance to go to Colby’s fall dance as well, which was so much fun! I’m not a dancer, so for me to like a dance takes a lot. So overall the weekend scene at Colby was awesome in my opinion, as the school isn’t just about the social scene. From what I understand, Colby’s athletics are not as strong in some sports than Trinity’s, but the coaches are all great. Everyone at Colby is so genuinely friendly and show an interest in the people they are around, and also the things they are involved in. Most were very outdoorsy, athletic, and all seemed very happy to be there. Overall, the school was just amazing. I am crossing my fingers that I will be accepted for the class of 2016!

Maybe thirty years ago you would ask Colby or Trinity, but Trinity has been dropping. Look at their US News rankings. Trinity #37 tied with Conn College. Colby is #21. your REAL QUESTION should be Trinity or Connecticut or Union

My daughter is a first-year at Colby and is wildly happy. She loves her classes, her profs, her friends, the food and the campus. Her assessment after two months is pretty much summed up by your observations during your weekend visit. Best of luck to you.

My daughter is a Colby Freshman, but in Dijon, France with their French program there. She starts in Waterville in January. She LOVES the Colby kids she is with and couldn’t be happier with the fact that Colby is her college. She is outdoorsey, athletic, and only likes kids who are genuine and friendly. Most all of the Colby kids in Dijon fit that description.
