Trinity or Colby

Hey,

I'm looking for some inside info from current students....I'm a rising senior at a Ct prep school. I'm an ED1 football recruit who wants to major in Econ and have a great student athlete experience (maybe study abroad). My school list was like 20 + but after allot of visits w coaches, prospect days, tours and info sessions I've narrowed the list to 1. Trinity 2. Colby. I like the idea of playing football in the NESCAC's bc I can pursue other opportunities.

Looking for inside scoop on social scene, football experience and academics .

thanks

Not sure what you mean by ED1 football recruit…early decision? OK.

Football at Trinity is much better than at Colby. The program has a long and storied history in New England small college ranks. As they say, you could look it up.

Academics are strong but not overwhelming if you take them seriously. Social life is good and you are close to Boston and NYC.

Good luck whatever you choose to do!

Edit:Trinity is 34-12 all-time vs. Colby…just sayin’

BossF51,

Thanks so much for taking the time.

ED1… I’m an Early decision 1 candidate at both schools who have 14 slots for players and those are done by way of ED. So I have visited both, been to camps at both, met with both coaching staffs, toured both schools etc so that I can decide somewtime this fall.

I feel very comfortable at both schools…SO FAR; love both coaching staffs, like both campuses for different rerason ( Colby gorgeous, Trinity really nice too and only 1 hour from home). I have also considered Bates and Wesleyan…they are 3 and 4.

I do go to a prep school now but am not a party guy, and love my school but would like a more friendlier scene. I like Colby not having frats to be honest but I love Trinity’s feel so far also. I will be taking overnight trip to both hopefully and get a feel for the school, kids and players I will be spending allot of time with…

And Trinity’s winning is really really nice…lol thanks again

If you’re not a party person and not a big fan of frats then you might want to factor that into your decision a bit more heavily when it comes to Trinity. Though there are still many clubs and other options, make no mistake…come thusday/friday/saturday the social life is dominated by partying at the various frats. And it can be hard to find your niche and sometimes feel a bit left out if you’re not a fan of going out on the party nights often.

I think Colby is seen as more prestigious these days.

What prep school are you coming from?

My daughter just started yesterday as a freshman at Trinity, and she felt really welcome within just the first five minutes. At Bates however when she visited, we were snubbed repeatedly in the Admissions office by Admissions personnel (I’m white and my husband is Puerto Rican) and were made to feel unwelcome, like ‘you don’t belong here’. At the hotel in Maine the desk clerk said that the Bates kids are snobby and act superior to locals and anyone not of the gold course set. For me, even being white, I wouldn’t want my kid going somewhere where anyone is snubbed based on their color…Trinity has made it clear that my daughter was accepted based on her record, her character and her accomplishments. 'Nuff said.

Trinity is a gem! People should look beyond the ratings and discover the many wonderful things it has to offer such as amazing internships in the state’s capital, highly ranked sports teams, beautiful new townhouse dorms and student center, a wide range of strong academic majors, excellent career placement, and happy students!
