Trinity vs Lafayette

Thinking of applying to Trinity and Lafayette. Visited both and really liked both. Looking for some info. from those who know about either one. What are the students like? I visited both, and my mom said Could you see yourself fitting in here? I feel like the answer is yes, but it's really hard to tell from just seeing kids walking by. What is weekend scene like? I'm not a big partier, but like to party sometimes and I like hanging out with friends. I've heard Lafayette is more cut-throat, but don't know if it's true. Heard Trinity is New England spoiled preppy kids but didn't seem like that when I visited. heard area around Trinity is awful.
I want to go where kids are chill. Want profs who are available.

S just visited both, but i don’t think he’d call the kids on either campus preppy. I thought the kids on both campuses looked well “normal.” He liked Laf better because he wants to get off campus whenever to bike, hike, ski and he felt like the odds were better at Laf. He’s also looking forward to club sports and felt that there were more opportunities at Laf and he loved Laf’s athletic facilities. Working out and playing on teams or really just hanging out with a group of kids outside is a big part of my son’s way to get relief from studying any season of the year so it’s important to him. They didn’t talk much about sports or Club sports or outdoor clubs or nature much at Trinity (other than squash and their beach volleyball court) and they didn’t really tour us through the athletic facilities, but it’s in a city so it is inherently different. He thought the atmosphere at Laf was more laid back.

I would look at Conn College too. Certainly as nice as Laf and a lot nicer area than Trinity. They are all ranked the same.

digger - When you say “a lot nicer than Trinity”, are you describing the surrounding town or the actual campus? I thought the campus was really nice.

momof3boys - I thought Trinity was also known to have laid back students. What made your S think Laf was more laid back? Just curious ?

Patsfan95…probably because just about everyone the particular day we were there seemed alittle high-strung and alittle too “drama-ish” for my son, even the people at admissions and doing the info session…I think it’s just one of those luck of the draw sort of things, another day perhaps my son would have felt that people were laid back.

If it matters:
LC has 23 D1 sports, Trinity and CC are D3
LC has a very strong engineering dept (Trinity does, too)
LC shares a strong “Patriot League” identity with Bucknell, Colgate, Lehigh and Holy Cross…smart, athletic, hard working and fun.
Administration and professors are fantastic
Facilities are top notch
Endowment per pupil is very high at LC: ~$290,000, Trinity ~$188,000, CC ~$107,000

I looked at both colleges during high school, and thought they felt pretty similar. Trinity seemed to party a bit harder than Lafayette, but neither of them were out of control. The Trinity social scene did seem to be dominated by rich New England types more.

Eventually, I got into both schools but chose to go to Tufts, which I would highly recommend to you. It’s bigger than either of them, which for me was great because it gave a lot of opportunities to meet new people and find friends who you can relate to. The students here are very chill, and I think you’d like it a lot!
