TRIP / Direct Deposit

Hey guys,

What exactly is the TRIP and how is it different from DD ?
For instance, it says you Owe XX,XXX $ on my triton link, so how would i pay this under TRIP/ Direct deposit.

My understanding of TRIP is that, i'd have to split the registration fees into 3 halves and pay it along with the tuition every quarter. (and I am guessing DD means you pay the full registeration fees in fall quarter)
So, if it says 'You owe XX, XXX$. You have not yet enrolled in TRIP. Not yet enrolled in DD'
and if i do enroll in TRIP or DD, would the $XX,XXX change accordingly?

Thanks.

and wats the point of enrolling for TRIP only for the fall quarter? (does it mean you pay 2/3rd of the reg. fees during next quarter?)

Oh wait… i think i get it, TRIP allows you to split the cost for a certain quarter in 3, and lets you pay in ‘installments’.
sheesh, that took a while for me to understand.

Now, what’s direct deposit? Bank to ucsd, money transferred directly?

kk, i just mulled over this website for a good half hour: [Understanding Student Accounts](Your Student Account)

So, direct deposit is useful only if ur recieving aid or funds from ucsd?

yeah. You’ll get your funds/aid regardless if you are eligible for it, its just quicker. Direct deposit takes 3 days for you to get your money otherwise they just mail it to you, 7-10 days.

So I enrolled in TRIP before I knew what it was. Still don’t really know what it is…what if I want to pay all at once and not in installments? What do I choose for that? Is that possible?

HA! I knew it was confusing enought to be brought to the forums!

@vyoung… maybe u shud click the button ‘CANCEL TRIP’ ( you can find that even in the link i pasted above) =D

If you have student loans or leftover award money each quarter, enrolling in direct deposit will have the leftover money sent directly to your bank account–no hassling with checks or waiting that extra time for it to come in the mail. It’s also convenient if you have a job–your paychecks will go directly in your bank account.

I thought it said… ‘directdeposit’ is NOT applicable for pay checks :S
but if it is, that’s great. I suppose there is no fee for enrollin in DD, so it won’t hurt to enroll.

I wish there were more payment options at SD. Other UC campuses have credit card (reward points!), but here at SD it is only cash at the window, paper check in snail mail, or e-check.

As far as I can tell, e-check is a push only thing, right? You have to login into myTriton to push the funds out. SD does have a program to automatically pull funds, correct?

Does it? :S

it doesnt automatically pull the money out of the banking account you have attached with direct deposit, you have to physically go on billing/payments and push “pay with e-check”. its nice that they wont spring a 3k charge on you and pull it out of your bank account without you knowing, but if you forget to go in and pay anything youve charged to your student account (which you can buy anything in the bookstore by “charging” it to your account through your id), they will charge you a $50 dollar late fee.

so they wont auto-remove funds with direct deposit, but they will automatically put any leftover finAid/scholarships into your banking account usually within three days after the funds go into your student account

its also really nice because you dont have the anticipation of waiting for a mailed check to get to ucsd and be processed, its instantaneous
