Trip to Japan?

My school is offering the opportunity for four seventh or eighth graders to visit Japan for two weeks in the summer. Should I apply? Do you think this would look good on boarding school applications. (I wouldn't do it just for that, btw. I'm just wondering).

Does anyone know of any language/political science summer programs here in the U.S. or abroad?

Thanks. :)

ridiculous. you do everything for college?

alright, i wouldnt discuss about it here. but i lived in japan for 10 years and loved that place. go, just go!!

Why do you think I do everything for college?

I'm not even in high school yet.

Most summer programs are for high schoolers.

Yes, I know. That's why I asked if anyone could find any for middle schoolers.

Go, go, go! Have fun!

I know Lead America has some for middle schoolers. I went to a high school conference from them and it was a ton of fun so I guess the middle school ones would be fun too. I'm not sure what courses they have for middle schoolers though.

I'm thinking of going to France instead of Japan. For courses and accommodation it's about $1500 for three weeks. I talked to a high schooler who went there and she said it was great. She also said they treat you like royalty an dyou get to be in parades and stuff. That'd be cool. lol. I'm not really interesting in the Japanese language though. I'm not sure if I'd like it better in Japan for a cheaper price ($700), or learning the best language ever for a more expensive price, but for longer.

I don't know what to do. lol.

AND ON TOP OF THAT - I could do a one week thing in D.C. for International Diplomacy. That'd also be amazing. Summer needs to be longer and less expensive.

J A P A N

W H Y ?

(10 char)

because i said so.

sounds like fun you should go

Explain, anyone?

You seem like someone who would greatly enjoy and benefit from these experiences. If you can take advantage of that and afford a summer in Paris, or Japan, or DC, do it.

When I'm at home in the summer, I usually just sit around and be lazy. I relax. After a long school year, I need that. But, by the time it's July, I'm bored. I got nothing to do. And, that's when I would wish I did do something worthwhile, something that pertained to my interests and hobbies, such as taking a class. Have enough foresight to find an activity to do in your summer. Don't waste it saying, "Mom, I'm bored."

I just asked my mom about France. This was her response:

"Why do you always want more?! Why don't you just take what your school offers?! It's the chance of a lifetime!"

My response:

"Why aren't you willing to pay the $300 extra to send me somewhere that I would ENJOY. I would learn a new language, see one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and meet AMAZING people."

Then she just walked away.

What should I tell her?

Try to convince her that this will actually benefit you later in life. Tell her she'll see less of you, even if it's only for a few weeks.

i kind of doubt u can become fluent in french within a summer, but i suppose you would learn something....

i'd pick france but only because i have already been to japan twice. my stay there summed up to about more than a month. i loved tokyo.

for the boarding school app. - it wouldnt help that much, i mean, i suppose they will like that you are interested in travelling but who knows.

but go to japan! its beautiful there. tokyo rocks, too. but remember dont do things just because it will look good on an app. do it for yourself. i picked a regular sleepaway camp for this summer because i have never done so and i just want to enjoy myself and learn things before i have to buckle down for my high school summers.

btw, you can always raise three hundred dollars for yourself if you really want to go to france, i guess. its not bad to want more.

btw - there are a lot of political science summer programs and stuff, but i think that it will be hard to find one for a middle schooler, because well, lets admit it, most middle schoolers dont know much about politics. im going to one next year though.

Paris? ha.

Tokyo is THE most beautiful city in the world.

Clean too (they banned smoking in the streets about 3 years ago).

"i kind of doubt u can become fluent in french within a summer, but i suppose you would learn something...."

I won't become fluent, but at least I'll know something more than "Parlez-vous fran
