Triple Dorm Room

D got her room assignment, and is in one of the triples in Denton (and we checked the floor plan....looks like it was planned to be a triple!!) Some questions...

Are there 3 closets in the room? The Res Life floorplan is pretty tiny, and it's hard to tell.... How much bigger is a triple than a regular double room? How high are the ceilings in the rooms...how much space is there from the top bunk to the ceiling? D is 6' tall, and both of us are having a really tough time picturing her in the top bunk. How do you decide who sleeps on the top bunk?

Any info would be great!!!

if it's planned to be a triple, there should be 3 closets. ceiling height depends on the floor-- 1st and 7th floors have higher ceilings than the middle floors.

i think your daughter should contact her roommates ahead of time (i'm sure she'll want to do that anyway!) and let them know she's really tall and would have trouble in the top bunk. i'm sure they'll be fine with that!

She'll be on the second floor. I told her that she should advocate that height/weight should be the deciding factor on who sleeps on the top bunk :) She's talked via facebook to one of the 2 roommates, who is 5'10"!!! Either the other roommate will definitely feel short, or it will be a trio of Amazon women!

triples are huge!!! at least the one i saw during orientation.

Planned triples are huge. Forced triples are hell. If it's planned, she will love it.

planned triples are not "huge", if u ask me, being in a triple sux, i lived in ellicot for 2 yrs in what was suppsoed 2 be a triple, but with only two people - hence the reason why i returned to the s h i t hole that is northcampus...and usually whoever gets to the dorm first decides where she wants to sleep, so if your d does not want the top bunk, i suggest you get there early....

I got a triple this year at Ellicott. There is no way I'm taking top bunk, I've already had a severe accident at sleepaway camp where I needed to be rushed to the hospital for blacking out.

"the s h i t hole that is northcampus"

That bad, huh ;]? Even though the rooms suck and all, I thought it would be amazing to live within 20 ft of like 1800 18/19 yr olds. Totally surreal.

for how much time you spend staring at the grossness that surrounds you, its not a big deal. you get used to it very quickly :) IMO, umcp11 has the right idea-- meeting people and hanging out with everyone is the part that matters.

click there, then go to the floor. the size of the triples looks 33% bigger than a double.

Yay! One of the other roommates already volunteered for the top bunk. I like that girl already!!! Maybe the other two will draw straws for the bottom bunk/vs other bed!

Don't hate on north campus. Even though living in the dorms can suck, north campus is awesome. My friends and I talked about it when we decided to live there again this year... you're right near the gym, comcast center, byrd, laplata beach (which seems to be having some sort of carnival or concert every weekend), the pool. Yeah it's a long walk to class, but it's funnn.

Astrophysics, you know there is generally two "topbunks" right? There is the actual bunked beds and the other bed is on risers. If you don't rise the other bed, it will be unbelievably cramped so there really isn't a choice. Your daughter just needs to ask for the bottom bunk.
