Triple Major Good Idea?

Attending Miami University Oxford this fall. Was originally planning to double major in Finance and Statistics, but just discovered the degree of Quantitative Economics. Sounds like I will cover many similar classes between my other two majors.

Should I look into triple majoring in all three, or maybe just switch my major completely to quantitative econ? My career goal is to eventually be doing business modeling for big companies, banks, insurance groups, etc.

Thanks in advance everyone!

There’s usually no real good reason to triple major. If quantitative economics have most of what you want, then why not major in that and then just take the extra coursework you want/need in finance and statistics? QE will allow you to do modeling for banks and other big companies.

It looks like you haven’t even set foot onto your college campus. I’d suggest you:

  1. get to college;
  2. start taking classes in the different areas you are considering and to get a better idea of where your interests and aptitudes lie;
  3. speak to your academic advisor about what major/combination of majors is feasible to complete in 4 years;
  4. speak to professors you have in those majors to get a better idea of what the major entails, what types of jobs graduates with that major can expect to get;
  5. speak to people at career services to get a sense where graduates with different majors you are considering end up in terms of job placement.
