Triple Major?

Is it possible to triple major? I would like to earn a bachelor's (if not more) in broadcast journalism, interior design, and education (early childhood and/or music). Would I be better off with earning a certificate or associate's in one or two of these? I know they're a wide selection but I'm really interested in all three. Please help!

This would be HIGHLY unlikely especially with the Interior Design major , which is very intensive.

Many universities allow you to start as an Undecided major (perhaps that’s you right now?) which means you have several directions you could go. In fact, many will not let you start as a double major–requiring that you complete 1 semester or 1 year first, have a specified GPA (showing you can handle college level work well) and sometimes other requirements as well depending on if the major is highly selective. The point is–you will have time to explore courses at your school that may give you more info on where your strongest interests lie.

But in any case, what you major in may have little to do with what field you go into for a career. Many interior designers start out as fine art majors, for example. Depending on your state, education may be a masters degree.

By the time you get to college, it is wise to think about making decisions. While you are interested and have talent in several areas, you will get more out of your education if you can focus on one or two. After all, college is not simply about the classes you take to fulfill your major requirements, but also the internships you line up, the ECs you love, the personal relationships you build, the networking you can do in your hoped for industry, the UG research you may be selected for, etc. etc. If you spread yourself across too many departments, there may not be as much time, nor as many advocates who are working for you. They tend to champion the student who is wholeheartedly devoted to their subject–and you don’t want to miss that sort of help if you can get it.

Best of luck.

Well said, Madbeam.

thanks madbean. i think i’m going to do a double major in broadcast journalism and education (general) and then maybe get my associate’s in interior design in 10 years. we’ll see how it goes. thanks for the advice!
