I THINK my son is triple qualified. When does Admissions send the letter out? He has a 4.0 GPA, 1360 on SAT, 34 on ACT, passed DoDMERB with no waivers required, and successfully passed the PAE. The PAE results weren't posted to the CIS until January 20. Does anyone know if he should expect to get a Triple Q letter? We're not sure if his chances of an appointment are that great since his only nomination was from his JNROTC Honor School that he attends.

AnnApache-
Once your son's file is complete, it will be reviewed by the board. If he is found to be qualified medically, physically and scholastically, he will receive a letter stating he is qualified.

Do you think they will take time to send a QQQ letter at this point? I would assume they are busy acknowledging nominations with letters and matching appointments to nominations after reviewing files.

Is there some point after which they do not bother to send the QQQ letters?

i got an honors nomination too- apparently there are 200 given, and 8 recieve appointments.... igot that info from my school

I thought I read someplace that 20 people get in from the Honor School/JNROTC nominations.

Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC, NJROTC,
MCJROTC), Honor Naval and Military Schools:

I just cut and pasted this off the USNA Admissions web site:

Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC, NJROTC,
MCJROTC), Honor Naval and Military Schools:

Twenty appointments annually are available through nominations from these programs.
Apply to: Your senior military instructor, professor of naval science or headmaster.

All 20 do not come from the honor school. They are distributed among those coming from all of the mentioned sources.

Yikes, well that's not very good odds for him! We can only hope it will help a tiny bit that he's sport coded a varsity athlete.

what is a sport coded varsity athlete?

My son is an avid sailor and in charge of all the sailing instructors at his school and has lots of awards, etc. in sailing. The USNA sailing coach invited him to go to Annapolis and practice with the team and spend the night in Bancroft Hall last April when he was a junior. After his visit, the Sailing Coach coded his application as a varsity athlete since he will be on the team if he gets in. So I'm not sure if that will help him or not.

I do think that the Academy will continue to send QQQ letters as part of the process as it is a form generated letter. Although a candidate is QQQ and has a nomination, they may not necessarily be offered an appointment at that time, but rather have to compete in the National pool during March and perhaps even fill slots that become available later on during the process-as late as May.

AnnApache:

If your son is QQQ and has a nomination, if he is truly being recruited, then I would venture to say that the likelihood of an appointment is that much greater.

sorry ann, i meant 8% of those w/ nominations, instead of the usual 10% of congress ones.

If your initial exam revealed waiverable eyesight deficiency then you receive a triple-q letter, does this mean you've been given the waiver?
