Triples---feedback

So I've heard that this year's entering class will be mostly in triples. I was wondering what are the current bruins' that are in triples feedback about it.

From what I saw in yesterday's tour... TOO SMALL!! I got claustrophobic there..

ha yea freshman WILL have almost all triples i believe. they aren't that bad, get over the castles you guys apparently hail from and suck it up. this is college, not a presidency.

Yea, they're small. They're manageable though--most people I know triples don't have many complaints about them. Just make sure that you and your other two roommates work out ground rules for everything.

on the bright side, there WILL be somebody to edit your paper.

yeah.. i talked to 4 different people with triples and they said they weren't that bad. more of a reason to get out of your dorm and be elsewhere. it would, though, be awkward to be a freshman with two sophomores. (i met someone like that).

triples arent that bad. i'm living in a triple as a 2nd year.

that's probably cuz there's a bunch of you guys packed into the room. the triple is adequate for 3 people. once you get about 5+ ppl in the room, it starts to feel really crowded. but for 3 people living there, it's fine.

Happy birthday, kfc4u.

LOL thanks flopsy. no one tell that i was on CC on my birthday

what if you try to get into the plazas or suites? still triples?

i'm not in a triple. but triples are small!! haha. who would want to actually live in there. and yes, the incoming freshman class will most likely have triples because all doubles are filled and even upperclass people had to get triples! that's how bad it was this year during sign ups. and if you do get a triple, get it at a plaza cuz they're bigger than the normal dorms.

"what if you try to get into the plazas or suites? still triples?"

Yes, there's a higher chance of you getting a triple in a plaza compared to being in triple in a high-rise. Mainly b/c I believe there's less plaza rooms which makes the demand for them higher. However, that doesn't mean it'll be easy getting into a double in a high-rise either.

It is also VERY unlikely that you'll get a suite this coming year as a first year. The info about the suites came straight from the housing director's mouth - so I definitely wouldn't bother requesting a suite if I were you unless that's what you really, really want. But brace yourself for the great possibility that your housing package will come back assigning you to a triple in a res hall.

a friend and i are planning to room together. how likely is it that we get a room with some third random person?

very likely.

Does anyone know if the situation is similar for Cal?

^^this is what i want to know. i know that cal always has perpetual hosuing issues, but then again, they only guarentee 1 year of housing, so they may not have the problem of having tons of upperclassmen in the dorms, which is what happens when you have 3 year guarenteed housing like UCLA...

Our housing tour guide told us he wasn't allowed to disclose the actual percentage of incoming freshmen being assigned to triple rooms though I heard previously that it was in the 90th percentile so it is ALMOST CERTAIN that all of us newbies will be living in one. But from what I hear, it really isn't that bad. I even went into the triple room in De Neve myself and I must say that it isn't too small to the point where you will feel trapped. We had about 11 ppl in there just to let you know. Besides, being able to meet two new people right off the bat is sure to make life much more interesting :)

is it very likely that if i wanted to room with my friend, that will happen? how likely is it that i will be able to room with 2 friends or i'm only guaranteed 1 friend and the other person will be a stranger?

I heard from the housing director that priority will go to those who choose their roommates though this is only if all three of you put each other's names, ids on the application and choose roommate assignment as your main preference. You will not be guaranteed the type of housing u want but most likely, you will be able to dorm with your friends given that you met the above requirements. This may or may not be true, I probably just had earwax in my ear but I heard that they would clear roommate assignments first before they go on to do the other rooms

i heard there are more plazas available because of sproul clousing.. approx 4000+ plazas vs 2800 res hall rooms?
