Okay so this guy at my school told me that this kid on our baseball team has a full ride to Colombia. This guy isn't even all that good at baseball, our team got 8th at state last year for 3A and he wasn't even the best player on the team. His GPA is something like 3.4 and his SAT was like 1680. How low are schools like Colombia willing to go for recruits? Also is their team pathetic or what? I expressed my disbelief to the person but several others backed up his claim so I don't know what to think.

Are you the ■■■■■ or are you calling the person who told you this story a ■■■■■? The latter application of the term is completely off: a ■■■■■ is really only useful in an internet context. In real life, you call them a liar.

So what if this kid got in? How do you know if you aren’t underestimating him? And why do you care–it’s yourself you should be worrying about.

Lol I thought the term ■■■■■ would be relatable to people on this site… could you actually answer the question please? Yes I am wondering if the guy that told me this is a liar/■■■■■.

I mean I wouldn’t want to apply to a school that has such a lax admissions policy for “athletes” so in a way it is relevant to me.

Oh and I do know the kid, I actually played baseball with him back in Little League and Pony. He is not extraordinary in any way. I don’t really want to talk to him about it directly as we are not really friends and I don’t want to sound pretentious.

i think ur just jealous

Can someone please answer the question: how low (as far as objective stats) are ivies willing to go for recruited athletes?

So he is at Columbia now?

The Ivys don’t need to relax their standards for athletes - they can get the best athletes and students.

Also the Ivys don’t give athletic scholarships. The only “full rides” they give are need based.

Maybe he meant a full ride in the ‘‘country’’ of Colombia. A special ROTC program with the FARC guerrilla group? XD

^ No, he is a senior in high school. I am highly skeptical that his acceptance is true but I have heard it from numerous people.

I would think that ivy league schools would recruit at least decently smart people regardless of athletic talent or do all schools have no academic standards for athletes?

Lol I don’t think so but that would make more sense to me. I’m thinking that he probabaly just got a letter form Colombia in the mail that they send to thousands of people and then just overexaggerated it to the point of “I have a full ride to Colombia” but who knows.

^I dont really understand the purpose of this when all you’re really doing is arguing with yourself haha.

^ lol there really is no purpose because I guess you guys can’t really help because you don’t know the guy. This disscussion is basically over but I just want to paint a picture of the guy I’m talking about just so I can clarify why, if true, his acceptance to Colombia bothers me.

Imagine that mean “jock” stereotype from the movies. Then add some more drugs and alcohol, a general disregard for academics, and some arrogance.

As (i) applications are currently being received and decisions aren’t made until early December and (ii) Columbia does not provide athletic scholarships, I find it hard to believe he has a “full ride” to Columbia.

All it is is jealousy, IvyMadness. You are in denial of your personal concerns in college applications, and as such, turn to someone who you can point a finger towards. So what? Are you just going to sit and whine all day long about others? That’s not how you live life. Unless you freely admit to being a loser.

^^ Agreed.

^ I resent that you think you know me from one inquisitive post. I care relativley little about the college admissions process, I have just begun to use this website for help in the process whereas you have squandered your time on it for months. I took my first standardized test in september and I am a senior. I play 3 varsity sports, am All-League and state ranked in 2 of them, and am not worried about getting admitted to a competative college.

I played baseball with this kid for years. He was not much better than me. I am not jealous but merely incredulous.
