Trombone recovery following several tooth extractions

I did not expect my performance on the trombone to suffer so greatly following 6 extractions. I have practiced slowly and very carefully although my sound and ability to play above the beginner level is my result to date. I have contemplated purchasing dental tooth wax in order to fill a performance in two days.

Do what your oral surgeon recommends. Your ability will come back, but you must allow time to heal.

Where are the extractions?

Anything towards the front of your mouth with significantly, perhaps drastically, change your omberture. If this was the case, see about implants - dentures and bridges have supports on the back of the teeth that will impact your tounging. So implants >> bridge >> denture.

Even molar extractions can have some impact, but I think you can overcome that with time. Regardless, there is no quick fix for this and tooth was is not going to withstand the stress of performance - you are likely to blow a chunk into your mouthpiece! I hate to say it, but you should probably cancel.
