Trouble coming up with ideas for Umichigan essay #1?

Hi everyone! I’ve been working on my supplemental essays to colleges and the University of Michigan has one that goes like this…

Essay #1 (Required for all applicants. Approximately 250 words)
Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it.

The problem is, I don’t really have a strong community that I belong to? I go to Church on Sundays and go to a Catholic school but im not that religious so I don’t think it would make a good topic.

As for my family, we don’t have an interesting culture or any traditions really. I also have a couple clubs im ion but im not involved in them enough to call it a community… any ideas?

If you moved to a foreign country tomorrow, what would you miss the most? Your family, your neighbors, your friends? What’s the defining factor in the group you’d miss the most? What makes you comfortable? Maybe your family isn’t exciting, but maybe everyone has to sit through Uncle Lou’s awful jokes or same old story every Thanksgiving, and it’s the patience or respect learned?

You’re part of a family, of a school community, of a team or two, of a group of friends…

It doesn’t have to be an officially labeled group, merely a group to whom you have strong ties.
