yeah, sorry, but I stopped reading after USNEWS. I really have no idea why you all put so much stock in that. But really, do not take my word [UCLAri has a point here, never trust something just because someone writes it here], ask yourself, how are these rankings determined? Don't settle for vague language like "takes into account research, faculty, blah blah blah;" how is this taken into account? When you look behind the curtain, there is no real substance there, just the inflated ego of an editor who has managed to hoodwink anxious college students and parents for about twenty years or so.

No, I am not saying UCSD is the "best" in the nation, or even on my beloved left coast. My jibes on UCLA probably got a bit out of hand. But that listing that I did not read -- ;-) -- Ask 10 different doctors and you will get 10 different rankings. USNEWS is a lousy magazine (it doesn't even work well on the bottom of my parrot's cage) that clambors for legitimacy on this one tenuous publication. Parents and prospective students alike would be better served ignoring it and spending time writing and visting colleges and speaking with current students and faculty. Oh -- and avoid the administration too, they will always tell you that you will regret not matriculating at their fine institution.

Oh, hanhou. One last little jab, you will NEVER find a carne asada burrito in Westwood that can compare to any number of 'berto's and mom and pop shops near by UCSD. Your mileage and tastebuds may vary.

how come ucsf is always left out of uc rankings?

UCSF med school is ranked #5.

I Have The Perfect Solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go To Uci... They Have A Great Pre-med Program And It's Right Between Sd And La... It's Like The Inbetween. Thus, U Don't Have To Deal With Goin Too Far Or Being Too Close. It's A Great School In The Oc. I Know This Sounds Crzy... Do Some Research About Their Pre-med And You Will See Why I Suggested This!

^ it must have taken a long time to capitalize each word...

^^^Hahahaha, seriously. Bad rep for UCI..

well, aT lEaSt <- he didn't type like that.

Ya freakin idiots, I wrote in all capitals (ok... I give ya that one :-)) and when it got posted it was automatically changed to make only the first letter in each word capitalized. Try it and then talk! Anyway, i still think that UCI is the best inbetween. I got into UCSD, UCR, etc., but UCI seemed like in the middle of everything, close to the beach, next to Disneyland... so why not? It's ranked 40, higher than Davis and SB... right behind SD. Assuming you got into I, it makes a good fit for you.

I think everyone knows at this point the only reason Davis is behind SB and Irvine is because of the incorrect stat reporting, so that point is pretty much mute..

Do you have evidence to back up that incredible claim?

<a href="http://www.californiaaggie.com/media/paper981/news/2005/11/18/FrontPage/Officials.Incorrect.Ranking.Will.Not.Affect.Graduate.Professional.School.Admissi-1321788.shtml?norewrite200603270006&sourcedomain=www.californiaaggie.com%5B/url%5D">http://www.californiaaggie.com/media/paper981/news/2005/11/18/FrontPage/Officials.Incorrect.Ranking.Will.Not.Affect.Graduate.Professional.School.Admissi-1321788.shtml?norewrite200603270006&sourcedomain=www.californiaaggie.com</a></p>

erm, lol that was a very erm, humorous, solution! but there is only one problem..i didnt apply to UCI : /

lol

i wouldnt want to go to UCI anyways...

^ Your Loss
Mega- Biased Publication

Undergrad college is really about the experience, more than anything, if you're planning to go to grad school. Grad school is more concerned with your GPA, and the activities and work you accomplished during college, than your actual alma mater. That being said, bigger-name schools do seem to carry more weight with...well, just about everybody.

Even so...I would vote for UCSD, if that's your top choice and your dream school. It's all about the experience.

amiradaprincess:
seems like most ppls opinion on this thread are mega biased?

I don't think publications that are supposed to report balanced news should be right or left-wing or biased in other ways. Just an opinion.

amiradaprincess-

same here

Just don't be a prestige whore and you'll be fine. I'm picking UCI over UCLA, UCSD, and others, don't listen to anyone but yourself (and me of course)

Hanhou
You know that you are going to end up going to go to UCLA. (I know her from school). You need to go with your first thought. When you flipped the coin and it landed on UCSD you flipped it again and when it landed on UCLA then it is shrugs ok. Lol. You know that you are going to end up going to UCLA get over it! Haha Love you!
