Trouble deciding UCF or FIT

So I am currently in high school, soon to go to college and I really want to work for Universal Creative or Imagineering…and I have two choices: One: Go to FIT, a more prestigious college in the area but farther away from Orlando and won’t be able to get an internship. Two: Go to UCF,a less prestigious school and have a higher chance of getting an internship and potentially a job.

I’m not sure which one to consider.

What are you planning on majoring in, something in the arts or something more computer science related?

I plan on majoring in Mechanical Engineering and with physics under my belt along with a possible mathematics degree (probably Associates )

After looking at engineering school rankings, I don’t think FIT’s engineering program is better or more prestigious than UCF’s. According to US News, UCF Engineering is ranked 82nd, whereas FIT Engineering is unranked. In addition, as you stated above, you’d have many more internship opportunities if you stayed in Orlando. If I were you I’d commit to UCF.

You can get an internship at either school. Plenty of students get internships in Orlando from other schools, like USF, UF, FAMU, FAU, etc.

UCF is a match for FIT in engineering (both have strong programs). This is more of a case between choosing a large public university, and a much smaller private university. Two different experiences.

Good Luck!

Yeah FIT offers internships too but it’s a matter of travel time. From FIT to Orlando it’s about 50min (which would be too long to travel) and I would have to travel back and forth almost everyday on a dangerous highway. I’m more interested on the engineering programs they offer rather the environment, so I’ll look into UCF then.
Thanks for your help!

I see! I’m surprised that FIT isn’t ranked. I’ll definitely look at the programs UCF offer deeper now.
Thanks!

Keep in mind that engineering internships (especially summer) are hard to get. When you start applying, you will not want to limit yourself to one city, like Orlando. Be prepared to travel!

Good Luck!

Yeah I I’ll apply for many internships at once and see which ones I’ll get accepted to and choose which one seems the most interesting. Fingers crossed for UC or WDI.
And thanks!
