Hey all!
I am a current Georgia State University freshman (credential sophomore) trying to transfer to the University of Georgia. UGA requires 30 credits hours in order to apply as a sophomore transfer, and I took 16 credits this past fall and have 18 credits from AP exams. As you can see, I’m heavily relying on AP credit to meet the 30 credit hour requirement. UGA does accept AP for transferrable hours only if, 1) The class is denoted as AP on transfer transcript, 2). Credit hours earned are on transcript, 3). a course designation at the college is on transcript.
My problem is, my current school does not put the course designation on the transcript. The enrollment services lady told me that the computer system “can’t physically put in a GSU equivalent course, because courses vary from school to school.” She assured me that UGA accepts the courses as they appear on the transcript, but then why would UGA have such guidelines if they make such exceptions? UGA and GSU are both University System of Georgia schools, so she assured me that UGA will know what the courses are… but on UGA’s website they state, “If UGA Admissions cannot determine from the transcript the course or hours or if it is AP credit, the credit will not be included in transferable hours.”
I’m so confused… Georgia State is not helping me whatsoever. I’ve emailed UGA and have yet to hear back (they are probably occupied with freshman applications). Re-sending AP scores from the collegeboard does not go towards transferrable hours at UGA so that’s not an option. I’m actually going to Athens, GA next week to tell them my issue in person.
Some advice is always greatly appreciated! I just don’t want to be rejected by UGA because of GSU’s lacking computer capabilities.
