trouble with full ride scholarship

^^

Good point. the student needs to look at Frosh award and see if Pell was on there, and how that was awarded. It may have gone towards meal plan or something.

What was the student’s EFC frosh year?

I wonder if she got this award:

Barbara L. Buzick Art Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a highly qualified freshman and renewed the each year with the student’s satisfactory progress towards an art degree and sustained achievement. The scholarship pays for tuition, books, fees, art supplies, and on-campus housing. To apply, students must provide a digital portfolio, an application letter, a transcript and two letters of recommendation.*

Approximately 20 Student Scholarships are awarded to new and returning students. The application deadline is February 15, but some scholarships are awarded during fall enrollment. Work Study, studio assistant positions, and internships are also available. Contact Glenda Taylor, department chair, for more information.

If so, did the student still get funds for books, supplies, fees?

I wonder if OP realizes that all monies over tuition and books is considered taxable income? Did s/he include the monies on his/her taxes/ Did s/he include these monies on the FAFSA?

I think the OP is the parent. The taxable part would be filed in the student’s name.

The scholarship wouldn’t raise EFC, right?

No, it wouldn’t raise EFC. Taxable scholarships/grants would be included in the student’s AGI if there was enough total income to have to file a return. Then another fafsa question asks how much in taxable scholarships/grants the student reported to the IRS so that amount can be subtracted out in the formula.

Don’t forget to update us!

A very big thank you for everyone who responded to my “trouble with full-ride scholarship”. We met today with the Director or Enrollment and after a two hour meeting it was decided that the school would send the student the Pell Money that she had coming. Everyone was so relieved. I had all of your timely answers and questions to ask…and I believe that this did the trick. Thank you, thank you

Terrific! Glad it worked out.

phew, glad that worked out!

A two-hour meeting?

Wow, no wonder he finally gave up - good for you!!! :)
