Trouble with the app.

I'm sorry, but I'm just a little ignorant. Is the Berkeley app. exactly the same as the one for the other UC's? And does Berkeley use your own school ranking system at all if you're OOS? Is one obligated to login to MyBerkeleyApp? And can I switch majors if I'm not exactly sure what I want to study (won't switch to engineering)?

"Is the Berkeley app. exactly the same as the one for the other UC's?": Yes, but be prepared to submit additional stuff if they ask you to.

"And does Berkeley use your own school ranking system at all if you're OOS?": I think they do, at least they're supposed to take everything into consideration. But Berkeley also has its own way to recalculate GPA, and that's what matters most, I suppose.

"Is one obligated to login to MyBerkeleyApp?" Maybe not, but you would want to know if they have or haven't received your SAT scores, wouldn't you?

"major" : you may, in college,it just depends on your ability.

According to the Admission office, Berkeley does not admit by major, but by the college you're applying to (which has an indirect way of relating to majors).

Some students who were admitted into L&S wanted to go engineering. So they took courses within the College of Engineering despite being L&S and basically had the coureload of an Engineering major. After that, a few of the students I met transferred to the College of Engineering after demonstrating their ability. Whether or not that is the standard procedure or not, I'm unsure.

You're not obligated to use MyBerkeleyApp, but decisions do come out on there, unless you want to wait a week or two. And twitb did mention about checking on any missing documents.

I'm not sure what OOS stands for so I can't answer that question. But Berkeley (or rather UC) does use your high school's ranking to determine ELC (Eligibility in the Local Context). ELC guarentees you into one UC, but not necessarily one of your choice.

Out Of State

Thanks Twitb.

Okay, if you're an out of state student, then ELC does not apply to you. So disregard my comments.
