True or False?

S says that there are no classes on Wednesday…? If true, this sucks - booked flight for Wed. night based on the fact that he had classes all day. He could have come home Tuesday : ( Lesson learned

Lisa

There are no classes this Wednesday because of Thanksgiving holiday.

That’s pretty typical of colleges (some colleges have the whole week off).

For future use, print yourself a copy of the academic calendar. :)

Colleges can have different schedules than what we’re used to.

I should have said - booked flight based on the fact he SAID he had class on Wednesday - ha ha.
What was I thinking?

LOL

Well, I’m glad to hear that, because in my post I was going to write…It’s his fault for not letting you know when he could come home. :)

This will be a learning lesson for him. He’ll now have time to do his laundry and clean up his dorm room on Wednesday morning! ;)

BTW…I just looked at the academic calendar, and I can see why a frosh might make this mistake if he didn’t look at it closely…

November 24 Last day for all tests, etc…
November 25 Classes Dismissed (UA open normal business hours)
November 26-27 Holiday - Thanksgiving
November 30 Classes resume at 7:00 AM

He may have just seen the Nov 26-27 dates. He may not have noticed the notation next to November 25.

I guess they have to write it that way, since the campus is open for business on Wed.

Wow, my daughter at UMass Amherst has classes on Wednesday although we are picking her up tomorrow. One of her Profs. wanted to give them an exam on Wednesday at 4. To me, that is just being mean for the sake of being able to. Thankfully he changed his mind. She has to come home tomorrow because there is no way I am going to drive up and back to Ma. the day before Thanskgiving.

Wow…how long is that drive? Is there a ferry to cut the drive?

Be safe!!! :)

With no traffic it takes just under 3 hours. It’s western Ma. It’s not a bad drive if there is no traffic. We have had it take as long as 7 hours coming home though. I’m sending dh alone on this trip. I have a feeling it will take them forever to make it back to NJ.

Yes, there are no classes on Wednesday. Hopefully you and your son have looked up the final exam schedule (students are supposed to leave within 24 hours after their last final exam). I purposely chose my schedule so my last exam was Wednesday night so I could leave Thursday morning/afternoon. Depending on the airline, he may be able to stand by or confirm himself on an earlier flight for either free or up to $50 (not on Southwest though). If he really wants to come home early, call the airline to determine his chances and get him on an earlier shuttle. The worst thing that could happen would be that he ends up sitting in the Birmingham airport for a few hours (they do have free wifi).

There probably will be a lot of holiday traffic. Lots of kids coming home from college, and many families leaving town for elsewhere.

DH is driving home from Indiana tomorrow (his mom had a stroke last week) :frowning: ). He’ll probably get all kinds of traffic. :(

S’s final schedule is yucky - 1st final on Monday at 8:00am. Last final on Friday night. Flight out Saturday morning.

Yea, that happens sometimes. But, on the other hand, it can be worse when too many exams are too close together.

^^^

However, sometimes if a prof is teaching the same class at another time, a student can arrange to take his exam during an earlier testing time.
