Truely, How hard is academics Emory?

I was wondering, being a future premed student and probably a neuroscience and behavior major, how hard is Emory academics wise? Is it hard to get a high gpa, like a 3.6-3.8 (i know college is more about gpa and I'm not a 4.0 type but gpa is really important for med school). So whats the curves like and professors. Are the tests similar to the homework or do professors just throw random questions at you. And finally, are the students at emory really competitve for grades. Thanks a lot guys. :)

Is it hard to get a high gpa, like a 3.6-3.8?
- Yes, especially if you are premed. The average school GPA is about a 3.2 or so

So whats the curves like?
-The B school grades on curves for every class. The College is class-dependent. I have had only 2 classes in 5 semesters with an overall curve, and it wasn't a bell curve. The professor just added 1/3 of a letter grade to our final grade. I'm an English major.

Are the tests similar to the homework or do professors just throw random questions at you?
-Some are derived from the lecture, some from the reading. It really depends on the class. I haven't had any classes with total curve balls on the exam. Most of my exams are essay or short answer, not multiple choice. I've only had 2 classes with all multiple choice exams. About 1/2 of my classes don't have any tests, only term papers/shorter essays.

And finally, are the students at emory really competitve for grades?
- I don't think so. Everyone wants to do well but is also willing to work with each other to study and work on homework.

Overall, I don't think it's really that difficult, but it's not cake either. Most students can make Bs with a decent effort. Straight As are very difficult, but you have to try equally as hard to get a C, too. Emory doesn't have very much grade inflation. I would say there's a little bit, maybe 2/3 of a letter grade or so, but it's not as bad as some other schools it seems like. A 4.0 is very difficult to get.

How hard is it for a premed to get around a 3.5 GPA (not that 3.5 is what I'm shooting for...)?

If you picked the right classes with the right professors, especially in those hard science courses, then getting 3.5+ will be a whole lot easier.

Are there any classes that have webpages accessible to non-students that have assignments/past tests/etc on them so that we could possibly see an example of a course's difficulty?

I've heard many people say things like "I was pre-med until I took chemistry and decided it wasn't for me", but, maybe it's because I'm fairly good at chem and bio, I've seen the textbooks CHEM 141 and BIO 141 uses and it seems relatively easy. It's the same with a few other freshman courses (Math 115 and Latin 101)

Are the textbooks used a bad indicator of difficultly? Or are these courses in particular easier and upper-level courses are much much harder?

Edit: and is Chem 171 (the freshman organic chemistry) extremely hard? Everybody seems to hate organic chemistry.

what about cmopared to high school (assuming you took a bunch of AP/honrs classes)?

My friend's friend at Emory says it's not that hard. But then he's pretty smart but not really an overachiever (he would settle for B's)

pre-med people work SO incredibly hard here. They're up till 3 AM on friday nights. it's sick!
In fact, a student in my dorm just had a panic attack last night and the ambulance had to come because this person was so stressed out about chemistry.
