Trump's Victory effects on me

So I have a question, will colleges begin restricting undocumented immigrants (such as myself) from entering colleges and universities, due to Trump’s promise to restrict companies with undocumented immigrants? Does the fact that my parents respect American culture, have paid their taxes, and have degrees help with my chances of staying? I truly am afraid right now because my future is currently very unknown, and I hope that his presidency won’t affect my chances of entering a university. Thanks.

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I honestly have no clue, but wanted to give you some support. hugs

^ I would like to echo these comments. I’m sorry I can do nothing to alleviate your fears, but I want you to know we’re here for you. This is a truly troubling time and I can’t imagine the thoughts that must be circling through your head right now. My thoughts are with you, and I truly believe that love will trump hate, even if it seems so unlikely now. <3

@johonmilla we can only speculate what might happen in terms of private/public universities and undocumented immigrants.

A lot of our futures are unknown - a single proposition I voted against passed, which alone could lead to really good or really bad things.

I feel sorry about your situation. You may want to read the following article that provides some answers to your concern: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/11/10/implications-trumps-presidential-victory-international-and-undocumented-students

No way to know. You may consider military service before college, that path is unlikely to be closed.

Hugs, and so sorry you and other immigrants are facing this. What state are you in?

Thank you all for your support. @Ynotgo, i am from NC.

Im in the same situation, lets hope trump was kidding around.

@Zinn834 " I’m in the same situation, lets hope trump was kidding around."

I doubt he is kidding around. I didn’t vote that way. I’d seriously consider the military. Out of all the branches I’d investigate the Coast Guard. They are the hardest to get into. Military service has been a path to citizenship. They wave all the application fees. My son has a friend who is undocumented and his life is at a stand still after high school. He can’t get a job or a driver’s license. I think it’s important to do something and not wait around for the unknown. Good luck.

There are some schools that have promised to stay open and accept undocumented immigrants. Do a google search and you’ll find a list. There’s definitely a few of those that are not super hard to get into (my state school is one). I’m sorry that you have to go through this :frowning:

^^^Yes there are schools that will accept undocumented students. Unless the student is wealthy I don’t understand how the student is going to pay tuition. They are not eligible for Pell grants or student loans. The colleges at the forefront of being “sanctuary campuses” are private and cost $40k per year just for tuition. They are not promising to make college free. Private loans will also be impossible due to the lack of documentation. In many states a resident who is not documented is at least eligible for in state tuition prices. My state, VA is one. College is still about $28k with housing.

This is not a troubling time and if you are not a criminal you have nothing to worry about. The media and leftist liberals have continued a narrative that simply isn’t true. President-elect Trump has made it very clear that the administration is going to deport illegal criminals. Assuming you are not a criminal, you have nothing to worry about. Best of luck to you and I hope that you will pursue residing in the USA legally.

yea I might consider the MAVNI program if trump renews the contract when he becomes president, but for now its closed so. It sucks cause my parents have been paying taxes for 8 years and will never get any social security benefits and I cant get instate tuition or any federal financial assistance.

If your parents are upstanding people can’t you just apply for a F-1 Visa?

In the United States, the F visas are a type of non-immigrant student visa that allows foreigners to pursue education (academic studies and/or language training programs) in the United States. F-1 students must maintain a full course of study. F-1 visas are only issued in U.S. embassies and consulates outside the United States.Prospective F-1 students must apply at the schools and receive a form I-20 in order to apply for an F-1 visa.

"Does the fact that my parents respect American culture, have paid their taxes, and have degrees help with my chances of staying?"

Taxes and degrees have really no effect (unless they are extremely wealthy, in which case I would question why you don’t already have a Visa or a greencard).

However, I can offer you a solution (which my parents took).

Convince one of your parents to get a H-1 Visa

The H-1B is a non-immigrant visa in the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act, section 101(a)(15)(H). It allows U.S. employers to temporarily employ foreign workers in specialty occupations. If a foreign worker in H-1B status quits or is dismissed from the sponsoring employer, the worker must either apply for and be granted a change of status to another non-immigrant status, find another employer (subject to application for adjustment of status and/or change of visa), or leave the U.S.

Since they have degrees, it shouldn’t be too hard. Have your parents offer to work for a very low wage and they should be able to easily secure an H-1 (they can quit once your in).

Then, you can get a H-4 Visa

An H-4 visa is a visa issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to immediate family members (spouse and children under 21 years of age) of the H-1B visa holders.
USCIS allows immediate family members of H visa holders (H-1A, H-1B, H-2A, H-2B, or H-3) to get H-4 visas to lawfully come and stay in the US. These visas are usually issued at the local US consulate office abroad.

Since your parents have degrees, this is pretty much the easiest and quickest way to get out of being an illegal immigrant.
