Trusler leader/scholar community

Anybody know anything about this? I'd love to get some feedback from someone who lives there. Thanks.

I actually live in trusler now, so if you have any questions about it, I can answer. what specifically did you want to know?

the program is pretty easy, and it is also entirely optional, so if you end up thinking it is stupid, which a lot of people did, then you don’t have to do anything. I personally thought it was a very helpful program. I came here not knowing anyone, and just participating in all the events helped me make so many friends. also, the events are pretty useful, some of the ones we have had this year are: volunteering at a campus cleanup, a study abroad seminar, a seminar on what UF is doing to become more sustainable, in the very begining we all went on a tour of campus, we went to the reitz basement to do arts and crafts, and we went to the crc to get all our resume’s critiqued.

There were also a lot more besides that. and also, once you finish, you get first pick of dorms in a special section of murphree for the next year, so that was a pretty big perk.

Thanks for your response.

Do you feel that living in this community has helped you to become more involved in UF activities? Also, how is the dorm itself, in terms of how nice/comfortable it is compared to others? If you could get in Hume, would you think that that was a better choice?

Thanks again.

I actually started out in a temp triple in the beginning of fall, and when they detripled us, they tried to make me go over to Hume, even though there were empty spaces on our floor. I chose to stay here and got into one of the empty rooms. I didn’t want to go to Hume because: 1) I am funding basically all of my education through private scholarships, and I do not have the money to waste on a “suite-style” dorm, which is almost a thousand dollars extra, 2) they tried to make me go to hume west, which is far from everything, 3) I actually find it more convenient to have a traditional hall with the shared bathroom that is cleaned every day, instead of paying extra so I can clean my own, 4) I actually have a lot of friends in Hume, and from what they say, Hume never has anything going on, as opposed to Trusler, which usually has an event at least every week.

so you can probably see from all that, I really don’t like the Hume dorms, lol. I think being in Trusler really helped me get more involved. many of the events for LSP were about involvement, and I found out about a lot of different ways to get involved on campus. Also, it seems like the people who pick Trusler do it BECAUSE they want to get more involved, so a lot of the time, you can get at least 1 person to go with you to an event, or you can tag along with whatever anyone else is doing.

In terms of comfort, I feel like this hall is miles above Broward, and generally the entire east side of campus area. The Broward dining hall really sucks, and Trusler is a short distance away from the good dining hall, Gator Corner. while it is sort of far from the main class area, there are buses, and biking is pretty quick. The rooms have tile floor, which I like, and they are generally the same size as the rooms in broward and jennings, maybe a little smaller. but I have more than enough room for all of my stuff. There is also a pool right next to it, and the bus runs down museum road to Southwest rec.

Thanks for you input! That helps a lot.
