For those who went to the Explore USC Days for the trustee/presidential scholarship interview, now it is the anxious and agonizing waiting time (lol) . A few questions:

1) When do we expect to hear a decision from USC?
2) Will all scholarship decisions be notified at about the same from all schools at USC?
3) Will the decision be communicated via email, letter or online update?
4) Has anyone heard or received anything from USC after returning from the scholarship interview yet?
5) Last but not least, how did you think your interview went? Did they ask a lot of questions regarding your application or was it just primarily conversational and a lot of side talks about other stuff?

Thanks and good luck! (and enjoy the wonderful spring season which is around the corner :-)

1) Two years ago it was late March - around the 26th or so. Last year the posts went up on April 1st that the letters were arriving.

2) They all seemed to come within a few days of each other.

3) It is a business-sized envelope with one thin sheet of valuable paper in it. A very few candidates had their financial aid info appear on Oasis at the same time and it showed up there, but the majority did not get financial info until later, so the postal mail was the way most found out.

My interview was basically why i chose USC, what i think about LA vs my hometown (NYC), and a few things related to architecture since I’m an arch major

my interview was actually not as chill as everyone else said… lotsa Q/A. it was for marshall though, so maybe that’s why it was more formal?
and arghh, my interviewers asked me my top 3 choices… i said USC was number 2 (it really is!) after columbia… do you think that was a big mistake?? i asked some other people, and they told me they said usc was their number 1… which is what i should have said. i wish i were a better liar, but seriously, why would they ask that question?? i didn’t think they’d ask for commitment in such a confrontational way lol

good luck to everybody else. if i get the scholarship, i’ll definitely be there again in may. can’t wait!

neon its hard to know if that could help or hurt you. they may see it as “we need to give this person the scholarship to move up on their list”. best answer probably would have been usc is my number one but its contingent on the money, without the scholarship columbia is my first choice. thats odd because i interviewed with marshall and they definitely didn’t ask me that

oh and last year i got my scholarhsip notification online through my financial aid report which went up on april 1. best “click” on the computer of my life. i live on the east coast and the actual letter didn’t get to my house until april 10

Neon, I did not tell them USC was my first choice in my interview. I refused to answer that question. I said (with a smile) that I needed to wait until I received all the offers so I could make a decision that was best for me and my family. I got the scholarship.

@swoopes2 - April 10?! Oh man, I live on the east coast too, so I guess online is how I’ll be receiving my decision then, haha.

4) Did everyone else that got accepted into CLAS get a postcard? A day after I got home, I received a hand-written postcard from USC (CLAS) with a message saying “(mjang.), Thanks for visiting us in Los Angeles - it was a pleasure meeting you! We hope you’ll be able to share your art and academic talents with us in the fall!” and it was signed by “Dan.” The postcard had the date 2/24/10 on it, so it was literally the day after my interview that it was sent. And I didn’t take this as anything, but my freshman interviewer added me as a friend on Facebook, haha. She was friends with my host and her roommate though, so they must’ve mentioned that I was one of their Explore students or something.

5) I didn’t feel great about my interview, but I don’t think it was horrible either. I walked out of the room just feeling like…nothing really. I feel like it could’ve gone better. It was mainly Q&A, and the majority of it was about my application. They asked a lot about the school and how LA was different from where I’m from (tiny city in NC).

I’m so nervous, argh. This scholarship pretty much determines everything for me.

Congratulations to those who were asked to interview for the Trustee Scholarship. My son won the award 2 years ago, but chose not to attend USC because another school offered him a better financial aid package. Best of luck!!

mjang - Yup, CLAS. Was “Dan” a student, admissions staff, or professor interviewer? Mine was written by a pretty important figure (I would say who, but don’t want to give away too much info here since they read CC, lol). I kept wondering whether every interviewee got a postcard. BTW, what major did you apply under?

Oh, and to answer question 5…
I think mine went pretty well. I had two interviewers, and it was a very nice conversational type of interview. There were a few questions regarding my application, but it wasn’t limited to that. I was given the opportunity to talk about some things that were not on my application as well. Overall, it was a great atmosphere for me. I was pretty nervous going into it but actually became less so as the interview progressed. It wasn’t scary or anything like that, which was very relieving.

blissfulting - Hmm, I wonder if CLAS sent postcards to everyone, and if other schools did too. I think it’s pretty awesome that they took the time to do that though. My interview was with an academic advisor and a freshman student. I applied as undecided, by the way.

Kate002 - Ooh, did you receive a postcard and friend request too? Hahaha.
