You can get Trustee without being a NMF, right?

I would assume so, NMF doesn’t necessarily make you a top candidate.

My son received the Trustee Scholarship last year and was awarded the top Dean’s scholarship EA. He didn’t receive notification of his receipt of the Trustee Scholarship until March. He had 4 other full tuition offers, and we called a few times to see if he was still in contention before he made a final decision. We were given a different answer every time regarding when the Trustee would be awarded. We were even told at one point that it wouldn’t be awarded until June! In the end, it came at the same time as the RD decisions. I guess what I’m saying is that I agree with neuchimie (whose info is always accurate). I wouldn’t necessarily give up hope!

maybe23- you say that admissions said all EA applicants were already evaluated by jan 14th, but my EA accepted son was just notifed yesterday (jan 27th) about getting the deans scholarship. Reading what MOMOFNMF said about her son getting a trustee scholarship in march…I’d say that perhaps northeastern waits to hear if some trustee winners are attending or not…and if a winner declines, they can offer that extra trustee $ to a deans winner.

I’m an international who applied RD, and yesterday I got my decision letter: got into the honors program and was awarded a trustee scholarship :D

My son got an early action $20K dean’s scholarship and is NMSF. Can you get NMF full tuition and still be considered for the trustee scholarship? Also full tuition at George Mason. Is FAFSA taken into consideration in these merit decisions? You hear different things from different people. Thanks.

I’m nearly certain that merit doesn’t look at FAFSA at all.

In response to rockchalk: My son received the Trustee’s Scholarship before the NMF deadline was up. I don’t think it matters, though. He was waiting to see where to “spend” his NMF 1st choice, and hadn’t faxed in his NMF/Scholar notification. We qualified for no need based aid (but filled out FAFSA anyway). I don’t believe that any consideration was given to FAFSA when awarding the Trustee’s Scholarship.

Best of luck to your child. NEU has really turned out to be awesome!

My daughter was accepted during early action and was also accepted into the honors program. She was awarded a dean’s scholarship as well.

From what I can gather, the top 10 % are addmitted to the honors program. If there are approximately 3000 incoming freshman then that means approx. 300 in honors program.

I also gather that there are approximately 100 trustee scholarships awared to the TOP applicants which I assume would come from that pool of 300 honor students – correct??

What I don’t understand is how they can determine in December (for the early action applicants) if they will be in that top % to receive the trustee scholarship. I would think that they would need to have evaluated and accepted ALL of the students before determining who the very top ones are for the trustee scholarship.

Any info that can be shared is greatly appreciated. Trying to determine if she is still in running for Trustee scholarship.

Does anyone know with 100% certaintly that if you have been accepted to the honors program and have already been given a dean’s scholarship that you will definately NOT be considered for the trustee scholarship?

My daughter did early action so how would they know in Dec. who will be the top 100 for the trustee? It seems that they would only be able to determine this once they have rec’d the rd applications.

Any info shared is appreciated!

I don’t think there are 100 Trustee Scholarships awarded. Based on the website, there are about 100 students who get either the NMF or Trustee. I believe there are more NMF full-tuition scholarships than full-ride Trustees…way more.

I agree, that there are not 100 trustee - that was a typo (thanks for catching).

Would you know any thing about when students are notified and if they were early action and were awarded a Dean’s back in Dec. does that mean they will not be considered for Turstee? (she was not a NMF)

Thanks

The Trustee was awarded to 25 of the 38,000 applicants last year. I don’t know about this year, but my son got the top Dean’s scholarship and the Honors program EA in December, and then got a letter in March letting him know he’d gotten the Trustees.

You can try calling if you want, but I know I did last year (he was weighing several full scholarships) and I got a different answer every time.

In his case, although he was admitted EA, he was awarded the Trustees with the RD admission decisions.

Trustees isn’t necessarily offered to the “top 25 students”. All of these kids in honors are outstanding students. Many are National Merit Finalists/Scholars and their scores are all pretty similar. The Trustees is usually offered to students who have done something that is particularly noteworthy.

Hope this helps and best of luck to your daughter. I’m guessing you will probably just have to wait until RDs are released to be sure.

I received the Dean’s Scholarship, but I am a National Merit Finalist. Do they update the National Merit Scholarships later?

nhojcast: Yes. Call the office and they’ll give you instructions where to fax in your NMF certificate.
