Trustee's Scholarship Program

Hey everybody

I’m a senior in high school who will be applying for the Trustee’s Scholarship. I was wondering what the scholarship committee looks for. Are good grades, good test scores, and fairly decent ECs enough? Also, I decided to apply for the scholarship in the last minute, and so the only two SAT IIs that I will have completed by December 1st will be writing and math IIc. Does writing count as an SAT II since it’s been incorporated into the new SAT?

It is BU's most prestigious scholarship...i'm applying for it too grr

You have to be near perfect to get it...I don't see why anyone would go to BU if they won this scholarship unless they needed the free tuition because if you win this scholarship, you probably could get into almost any school.

Does this scholarship cover everything?...room and board too??..or just tuition..do you think I have a chance...some quick stats..

Rank: 13/474
GPA: 3.76 (UW), 5.77 (W out of 6)
SAT: 800M, 720V, 740W
SATII: 800 math 1, 790 math 2, 800 physics
AP: Physics-B 5, Calc AB 5, Stat 4, Psych 4
EC: Varsity swimming (captain), varsity tennis, math team, FBLA, REBEL
A bit of work: I tutor people in physics and work for my year-round tennis coach; Volunteered at that coaches tennis camp bout 240 hours

what do you think?...and if this doesnt dover room and board...do they have any scholarships that cover everything..or do you think i could get a full ride from multiple scholarships and some grant money??...this is an important issue for me to apply to BU so any input asap is appreciated...especially since the app is due in two days haha

It covers tuition and mandatory fees.

I hope you applied because you have a fair shot.

Haha I didnt...I stil wouldnt pay room and board though...Honestly rutgers is just so cheap

That's funny. I didn't either. I realized that I didn't want to go to BU at all when I tried to say something nice about it in one of the short essays.

HAHAHAHA...yea its seems tough to write a WHY (insert college) essay for anything but your top choice..at least for me. I had no problem writing more than a page for Penn, but I didnt feel like doing it for other schools haha. And people ask me how I could have written so much about why penn..and im just like..cause I love it.

I also applied for the Trustee Scholarship. Actually, BU's my first choice. I need a full scholarship, otherwise I wouldn't be able to go to school there. (I'm an international student.)
I actually went to BU last week. I really liked it, it's very urban.

Anyone of you guys apply for the MLK, Jr. Scholarship? I did.
How many people do you think apply to these 2 scholarships--I reckon not too many.

i applied for the Trustee scholarship - i was going to apply for the MLK Jr one too but i decided not to because I don't wanna be required to do tons of community service and i didn't think it really fitted me anyways

I didn't do too much Comm Service, but my essays worked like crazy to their descroptions, and I had everything they were looking for. I hope I get it!

i applied for the mlk scholar... who looks/decides... the adm committee? and also how much would bu cost if we got one of these scholarships?

I'm a freshman at BU right now, and I applied for the Trustee Scholarship last year. You have to have good stats, and something that makes you stand out to get it. I mean, there is a girl on my floor who has that scholarship and I know people who had higher stats than her. She is very smart, but I think she had something that made her really different and interesting, not just high stats. It's very selective and very random, but its definitely worth trying for. If nothing else, it may help you get another scholarship because you showed alot of interest. It worked for me.

If you have any other questions about BU, feel free to ask me :)

dramaqueen- how many scholarships do they give out?
did you end up receiving the trustees scholarship?
also is there any chance you know the people or some that received the mlk scholarship?

thanks

I ended up getting a Deans scholarship (for 10K). Definitely not full tuition, but it helps. I'm sure how many scholarships they give out, but I searched the school's website for statistics and I couldn't find any exact numbers. I know for Dean's scholarship, it is given out by each individual school in the university, so it all depends on where you apply, etc.

I don't know anyone who recieved the MLK scholarship. All of my friends either pay themselves, have Deans scholarships or have the University Scholarship (half tuition). Most have scholarships, and my friends who don't were A and B students in high school. You all have a very good shot at getting a good amount of money.

I applied for Trustee Scholarship, too. Sounds like a great experience! I figure it is worth a shot, even if I am not the perfect student. Even if I don't get that, I still may go if I get a good enough scholarship. If I get the Trustee one then I will probably attend the school, and if not then I will most likely go to UPenn (though I will probably have to pay the full tuition, or near it). It'll be interesting to see what happens. Good luck to all of you!

UPENN IS SOOO SWEEET...go there instead...unless the money is that big of an issue

thats where im going lol so thats why im so avid

BU can't even compare to UPenn

Where do the Trustee Scholars live? What type of building is it? Is it seperated from non-Trustee Scholars? How is the area compared to other buildings/rooms?
