Truthful advice needed. All comments are welcome.

Hello, I am a NJ resident who is looking to apply to Rutgers NB early action. Problem is…given that I have a 3.2 GPA and 1900 SAT superscored, should I apply for early action? I also have taken about 6 honors classes and an AP class, volunteered for about 110 hours and that’s about it. Do you think it’s wise to apply regular action? I will be taking the Nov. 5 SAT.

I really need to know.

Really, anything could be useful. A mod is probably going to ban me now

What are you thinking would be the down side to applying early action? There is no down side, and could possibly help your application.

Why would you get banned? Bumping can be annoying, but probably not going to cause that. Google the Common Data Set for Rutgers and see how your SAT scores and class rank fit with the last freshman class.

@brantly That’s my point :frowning: Having a 3.2 GPA is a negative for me. A 3.2 is lower than the average. I am prepping well for the Nov. 5 SAT and scoring around 1350s to 1400s. Question is…should I risk applying early?

@intparent I looked at naviance. It contains the data for the students at my school. Based on a data of 1144 applications, I stand well. Around my data point, only two were denied. It’s just that a 3.2 is trash and 1900 SAT is just okay. I have only 110 hours, with no clubs, sports, or anything…I don’t know what to do.

What other schools are you considering?

TCNJ(Reach), Rowan, Iowa State(Accepted), and Rampao.

Good to see you’re already accepted at Ames. I think that Rutgers is a high match for you – you might get in and you might not. (I will say, I doubt the ISU admission offer will be your last).

Because you have ISU in your pocket, you can take a deep breath. OOS at ISU is probably at least as selective as in-state at Rutgers. Hopefully that adds some peace of mind and perspective.

It does. I have gotten a scholarship as well. It’s just that I don’t want to move so far away from my family.

I understand. Well, do what you can to really nail those remaining apps.

Thanks! Really apreciated talking to you

My pleasure.

I must be missing something obvious. I still don’t get why it’s a risk. It’s always better to apply EA. If your GPA goes up or if you get better scores, you’ll send them over.

@brantly I think I will apply early. I am tired of worrying. So you’re saying I can update my test scores If I get better scores, even after I apply?

Of course. Just send them in. As long as the scores come before the application is reviewed.

Did not know that. Thank you. Based on my profile, what is your honest opinion on my chances to rutgers?
