I'm still in semi-shock right now, since I just found out that I got accepted at HYPS!!! I'm an Asian girl, upper middle class, no connections at any of the schools. In other words, no hooks. Immediate reaction about admission process: What I did with my app was try to make sure that I answered the question: Why should you (HYPS) one of the best schools in the country want to accept me in a 20000-30000 pool? What sets me apart from everyone in the country? Good grades, a couple club presidencies, a few varsity sports, an instrument, high SATs = NOOOO! I emphasized passion for politics and secondary interest in science. I made sure all my essays, rec letters, even the order I listed my activities reflected this answer. Hope this helps future HYPS applicants!</p>
