Trying to Claim florida Residency

So i applied to USF. 3.5 gpa i think unweighted and a 3.9 weighted.i got a 1590 on my sat ... bad i know 11 on my essay. but i checked my app today and it said i am RES ALIEN which i am but non-fl resident. i want to claim fl resident so my tuition would be cheaper. please help me plz. i hope this does not happen in other schools.
btw i have another question.
i applied to FSU ...do u guys think ill get in? i had a strong entrance essay aas well... critique please and thx

Every school’s residency requirements are plainly spelled out. See their website for what it entails. You just can’t wish it to be so. The residents of FL pay taxes to defray costs for their in-state students. It’s not just up to you to go and expect a discount.

Since you’re so unaware at this stage, I can predict that you absolutely will not qualify for in-state status.

i found out the problem. i filled out the form wrong. do you think they will let me correct it and re submit it ?

I have no basis for this belief, but I think you’ll be fine if you correct it and re-submit.

Good luck.

ARE you a FL resident?

Yes, that is the question. Are you a Florida resident. I can’t tell from your post. What “wrong form” did you fill out?

(I am a greencard holder and have lived in my current state for several years. I did not have to provide any forms to the school I am attending, though they did want to see my greencard).

hello! well i called FSU today. and yes i am an FL resident but i am under 18.
the FSU guy told me to let me guardian fill it out and send my greencard together with my guardians greencard.
i ask him if that is it ? he said yes.
btw the info on the resident affidavit will be my guardians?(brother) like license # and vehicle reg #??

^okay then they should accept those. Because my mom is a resident alien (from Jamaica) and I’m a resident but in order to claim Florida residency we used her information including her license # and vehicle registration as well as her alien number and that info got me Florida residency. And yes I am a fl resident I have lived in duval county all my life. I wish you all the best and Good Luck! And which university are you leaning toward?

fsubound this is the best info i got in this post  thank you so much.
did they ask you for additional documentation besides greencards?
i just let my bro(guardian) fill out the form with his info. thank you for lettin me know!!!any additional info i should know, please feel free to post it to me ! thx

and hey i am leaning toward
FSU
FAU
USF
and maybe UCF.
scores arnt so good. gpa is about 3.5. not much extra curricular activities. due to the fact i just moved here to florida (2010 summer) and all those stuff is messed up as the clubs in the school i came from (im from trinidad) do not apply to the us. i need a good way to post my resume tho!

No problem, and no they didnt ask for any other information other than the alien # and other infomatioin that would prove our fl residency(license # & vehicle tag #). Do you plan on taking the SAT/ACT again to boost up ypur scores(the test oin Feb are the last that FSU accept for decision purposes), because honestly since this is the second wave of admissions notifications it will be more competitive. What are your grades looking like for senior year? have you checked out the website for the CARE Summer Bridge program? (great program for 1st generation college students and those in financia need) The deadline is January 19th if you wish to apply.

i already applied. i plan on taking ACT again and no i have not checked out the CARE summer bridge program.
As of now. since my brother is claiming residence i have to provide legal guardian paperwork, and i have no clue where to start…im so worried and scared and depressed right now, cause i really need to claim florida residency

hey , did you send a copy of your alien card to all the schools?

mchief101-is your brother legally your guardian or do you just stay with him?
