Trying to decide between BU/Northeastern & Lehigh

My daughter, an incoming freshman, has narrowed it down to BU, Northeastern and LeHigh. She intends to major in environmental studies/public policy. Price is about the same for all three schools. We were able to take official tours at Northeastern and LeHigh but only a self guided tour at BU. She understands the differences between a city campus and a more traditional campus at LeHigh as she has an older sister in college in Philadelphia and another on a traditional campus in Maryland. We’re looking more for info on academics, social life and internships opportunities. Any input is greatly appreciated!

I am an NU alum and parent of a freshman. You might want to join the Northeastern Parents Facebook group and ask about their experiences with that major. The NU parents are overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the co-op program, study abroad opportunities and having happy kids. My son is undecided (Explore program) and has found the students very nice and friendly and likes his professors and the time he has spent exploring Boston with his friends. NU has done an excellent job navigating COVID and so has BU.

We just looked at Lehigh for my younger child. Very pretty and the new dorms look great but Bethlehem is quite different from Boston so the difference in campus life may help your daughter decide.

I echo what @Mom270 said. The 2 NU parents Facebook groups have been very helpful. The parents seem extremely pleased with NU as the choice for their kids.

Also, tons of responses here in CC regarding social life at NU. My teen committed after visiting the campus and is very excited to join! This is a school that wasn’t even on our radar but it quickly bubbled to the top.

Your child has to buy into the coop program. It’s integral to their experience there.

Thanks for the input. I did join the parent groups for each school and it has been helpful.
