…and yet they still don’t have the best rivalry in college sports according to most people.

That’s because football s*cks in NC. LOL.

What? There aren’t even 100,000 seats in the dean dome. And there are much fewer at Cameron. UNC sells out just about every game (and I imagine d00k does too).

It was so depressing at the UNC-d00k game this year, because I was in the stand by line, barely did not get in, and then watched from Ram Village from an apartment where the predominant feature from the window was…you guessed it…the Dean Dome.

But we won, so it’s all good. ;)

Hey, we had a better record than Michigan this year. UNC is a team on the rise; NC State and ECU also have good traditions as well.

And should I bring up App State?

you can’t compare football and basketball attendance. the stadiums are completely different sizes.

“…and yet they still don’t have the best rivalry in college sports according to most people.”

Michigan-Ohio State is considered the greatest rivalry in this country, bar none. It has been a bit lopsided the last few years, but that doesn’t take away it’s claim. Not sure where you got the idea about UNC-Duke being the number one rivalry. Like I said, college football is king!

That’s my point MIT. There is no comparison! Basketball is just not as important as football.

i’m a diehard duke fan (sorry cuse0507 and phonyreal) and duke basketball is the greatest dynasty in college sports and coach k is the greatest coach. duke basketball trumps any lame sec football game you can think of.

No kidding? Speaking of lame…

Before this thread becomes off-topic, I will post a link that states the greatest college rivalry. No more arguing because this was ranked by PROFESSIONAL experts. (UNC-Duke does not even appear on this list.)

Ohio State vs Michigan
Series Record: Michigan leads 57-41-6.
Award: Ohio State players get a gold charm in the shape of a pair of pants if they win. No rivalry has a better combination of history and championship implications than Michigan vs Ohio State. Since 1913, the two teams have combined for all or part of 70 Big Ten titles and the have finished 1-2 in the standings 15 times since 1968.

Alabama vs Auburn
Series Record: Alabama leads 38-33-1
Trophy: Omicron Delta Kappa-James E. Foy V Sportsmanship Trophy
This college football rivalry is number one as the fire, passion and hate between the two schools is unlike any other. This game literally stops a state. The teams didn’t play from 1907 to 1948 because after the 1907 game, they couldn’t decide which referees to use. The trophy for this game isn’t as important as the ownership of the state that comes with a win.

Oklahoma vs Texas
Series Record: Texas leads 58-40-5.
Trophy: The Golden Hat
Known as: “The Red River Shootout”. The winning team’s state is supposed to get ownership of the Red River for one year until the next game. It’s one the few rivalries that are played on a neutral field. These two teams play in Dallas, Texas which is is exactly halfway between the two schools, Austin, Texas, and Norman, Oklahoma.

Um, your link ranks the best FOOTBALL rivalries, not the best SPORTS rivalries. UNC and Duke don’t have a real football rivalry.

Dook will always be second-best to UNC, that’s the way it is.

Once again, YAWN…That’s what’s wrong with college basketball, you can lose to your main rival three times during a season, and stilll win a NC.

Michigan fans have been doing a lot of that lately…;)

Yes we have. But we still show up for the games. NC fans finally sold out their little football stadium for a whole year! wow!

Like I said, our forte is basketball (have you noticed?) but we’ll take some good football seasons as well.

It kinda sucks that 100,000 Michigan fans had to see their team go 3-9 this year.

Go to Stanford or Michigan OP. Yes. First losing record in over 40 years, it does sck. Sitting outside in lousy weather in November scks too, but we still do it. It only takes 10 players to make a great bb team. It takes 90 for football. Much easier to stay on top when you only have so few to recruit. Nevertheless, UNC is the king of college BB now, no question.

too late for that.

Uhhhh no. d00k doesn’t even have the greatest dynasty in college basketball. That would be UCLA.

YAWN…our college football champion is essentially elected and coronated instead of having to play for it. That’s definitely fair.

I agree. Sorry for letting that happen. :-(
