Trying to decide between Michigan, Stanford and Duke(PLEASE HELP!)

For applying to law school, I do think Stanford would be the best choice for its placement and monumental grade inflation.

Undergraduate prestige doesn’t matter at in law school admissions. It is a soft factor and no one will differentiate between Stanford, Duke and Michigan.

Stanford>Michigan=Duke

No, Stanford>Duke>Michigan.

You will never give Duke the respect it deserves will you?

^ Saying Michigan=Duke is disrespecting Duke?

Stanford>Berkeley>Michigan=Duke

Okay,
Stanford > Berkeley > (Michigan<>Duke). Better.

ringoffire, how does a person who believes Michigan is one of the top 10 or top 15 universities in the nation “direspect” Duke by saying the two are equal? If anything, the comparison seems to indicate a very healthy respect for Duke. I wonder where the direspect lies!

For graduate school, I would love the comparison Alex. For undergrad, Michigan is a fringe top 25 school and is not by any shape or form comparable to Duke, unless you concede that all colleges from Harvard to NYU are essentially the same, which is fine as well.

this guy(ring of fire) posted a ranking on a website of a college in china which duplicated a 4+ year old us news ranking which split a tie between duke and stanford that placed duke over stanford, solely because D comes before S in the alphabet… yep, true story.

The funny thing is that he honestly believes that Duke should be rated among the top 5-6 schools in this country. Since he wasn’t accepted into any of the top 5, he has to justify in his mind that the school he got into is just as prestigious. The fact is that while Duke is an excellent school, it has about 15 or so other schools who are indeed it’s real peers. HYPSM are not included.

Ok, fine. Duke > Michigan ok? Can I kiss your Duke ass now? Because, I mean, Duke is soooo much better than Michigan. I should pay my respect to any Duke student I see, because obviously, he will be much superior to me intellectually.

You know what? In the real world, no one gives a ***** if you went to Duke over Michigan (or vice versa). It’s all about what you have to offer as an individual.

Check out #3… :)

Ring- Spend some time at a public university, and I think you would withdraw that statement. Duke and Michigan are academic peers. While someone could certainly argue that one provides a better undergrad experience than the other, both have outstanding faculties with excellent resources and opportunities. You needn’t go far to appreciate a good public university; Duke offers cross-registration with UNC Chapel Hill.

oh snap!(10 char.)

UCB. I really don’t hate Duke or it’s basketball team. I could care less about either to be honest. I just hate Duke students who somehow think they are above everyone else who are their contemporaries.

“For graduate school, I would love the comparison Alex.”

I am sure you would ringoffire.

“For undergrad, Michigan is a fringe top 25 school and is not by any shape or form comparable to Duke, unless you concede that all colleges from Harvard to NYU are essentially the same, which is fine as well.”

So you believe Duke is equal to Harvard and NYU is equal to Michigan? We are each entitled to our opinion I suppose.

^No, I mean that I don’t agree with your college ranking system which consists of HYPSM and then the next 20-25 schools in a two-tier system. I think there are multiple tiers within the next group of schools that are not HYPSM.

Schools like Duke, Dartmouth and Penn are on a different level than schools like UCLA, Boston College, USC and Michigan.

I love the fact that you put Duke with the lower Ivies… Just because it’s known nationally for it’s basketball team doesn’t make it THAT much more prestigious than its peer schools: UNC-CH, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, USC, NYU, etc etc etc.

If you look on 90% of the chance threads where people wondering about Duke ask for similar schools to look into, the ones I just listed are the most commonly referred. If they are similar, they are peers.

Hahaha. Credibility shot.
