Trying to decide... help?

Out of the colleges I've been accepted to, I think Pepperdine is my favorite. The academics, the study abroad program, and the location are all aspects that I like a lot. My faith is important to me as well, so I don't mind the Christian mission at all. However... I also happen to be gay, and because of that I'm having a few inhibitions about Pepperdine...

So basically I was wondering if any current students could tell me how gay students are treated there? I've read in a few places (though I don't know how reliable they are) that there's a noticeable amount of gay students... But how many openly gay students do you personally know of, not just ones who seem or may be perceived so? And more importantly, how do they tend to be treated?

I know that there are people who disapprove of homosexuality because of religious reasons, and though I respectfully disagree with them and understand that otherwise they're probably very nice people, I just feel like it wouldn't be wise to surround myself with them for four years, so I felt like I needed to get a students' perspective before I dove in. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. :)

There are plenty of openly gay students at Pepperdine. From what I have observed over two years on campus and studying abroad, I think gay students are generally accepted and treated no differently than straight students. You will have run-ins with those “conservatives” who disapprove, and there is also a fair amount of closeted gays. However, they are in the minority and it would be a shame not to come to Pepperdine because of them.
In fraternities, straight students completely accept their gay “brothers.” Studying abroad, I noticed that the gay guys in the group were treated just like one of the guys and not discriminated/distinguished in any way.
Anywhere you go, you will find a small minority of ignorant people. It is no different at Pepperdine, but it is definitely no more than a small minority.
**Let me know if you have any other questions about this or anything else.

That’s great to hear. Thank you so much for your help!
