Hi guys! I'll be getting commended, but here is my list of schools -

Cornell
Columbia
UPenn
UChicago
NYU
Northwestern
Northeastern
Boston U

Now I already know I'm sending the first one to NYU. I wanted to know, Cornell is near and dear to my heart, but I know it is ivy. Should I send it anyway? I know it's not a huge merit, but I think the fact I'm extra interested in the school would still be helpful in the long run.

That’s sound advice. I know the deadline is over, but I overheard someone speaking to my Admissions Rep from Northwestern and she didn’t even seem to know what it was. I doubt schools actually care that much about the CPRS. I sent mine to NU anyway.

Didn’t help my son-do you think you actually are going to get a scholarship? He didn’t-If your scores are high enough-or you have other hooks-go for it-he had a 34 ACT backed by a 2180 SAT and was denied

Seriously, I don’t think schools do anything with these early “choice notifications” except to add the person’s name/address to their list of students to send mail to.

Since about 50,000 kids make it to this level, that’s 100,000 notifications…

The ivies don’t give merit aid. NYU’s web site says they participate in National Merit but don’t say what the scholarship is worth. UChicago and Northwestern both offer $2000 per year maximum. BostonU offers up to half tuition and Northeastern up to full tuition. ohio929496’s assessment looks pretty good to me.

I think that at best, this lets you get on a school’s radar. After sending in his scores to UMinnesota and URochester, S has had a couple of calls from Minnesota, but he’d previously expressed interest, so can’t say for sure whether this was what did it. Nothing from Rochester. Didn’t really expect anything from either, but the price is right. :)
