Trying to get a spring internship

I'm a senior ME major, and have a light load in spring.

There's also a bunch of engineering companies in San Diego where I can work and do the school thing in spring.

How do you go about this? Do you just make an account on the company website and throw your resume on their respective websites, and hope something happens?

Advice please! If I don't get some of this work experience it will be a booring next 6 months.
I'll keep you updated also.

Well applying online can be effective but it tends to be a crap-shoot. Ideally you would find out what’s available and try and leverage your connections. If you don’t have any connections then you might want to get on that. But taking the time to visit the firm in person and giving your resume to the appropriate employee, showing them that you have an interest in the position and a pulse, would probably make a big difference when compared to just applying online.
