At the end of first semester of my senior year, I withdrew from school and decided to take online classes because of so many absences and failing classes due to my mental health. I already have been accepted into college, yet they don’t know my senior year situation. I only need two classes to graduate and I am currently half way with one and an extra class that I don’t need. I have contacted many people who all have told me different things within my former high school. I decided to take it up with people from the school district, but since it’s the weekend I won’t be hearing back and I need some advice now.
I want to be able to graduate with my former high school. I will have the credits necessary and don’t see a problem transferring them back to my high school from my online school. There are students who do credit recovery from online schools and are able to successfully complete their requirements. This isn’t that different in my opinion. Also, I was a student there for almost four years, and took classes there first semester.
SO I read my county’s program of studies. I read that students transferring schools in their senior year should be given every opportunity to receive a diploma. Doesn’t that indicate that if I have my credits it should be fine?
In my school district, you can transfer to the school closest to your home guaranteed, but any other school you have to enter a lottery and the chances of transferring in the middle of the year aren’t great. It could vary between districts.
I’m in the same situation, I have only 75% attendance and it’s getting difficult to keep my grades up. I go to a rigorous college prep school and I’m looking to switch next year, but unfortunately my “home school” is the worst school in the district, so I might be stuck there for another year.
Maybe try looking in your district’s policy handbook or talk to a guidance counselor? My GC was super helpful. Good luck:)
