Trying to Improve :[

Hi! I will be a junior in the fall. I have taken the ACT three times now.

My first ACT test was in the spring of my freshman year. April 2009
English:30
Math:23
Reading:28
Science:26
Composite:27

My second ACT was this past spring of my sophomore year. April 2010
English:31
Math:25
Reading:33
Science:24
Composite:28

My third ACT was last month. June 2010
English:31
Math:25
Reading:35
Science:25
Composite:29

As you can see, I have had scores of 27, 28, & 29. With the exception of science, I have stayed the same or moved up on everything. My goal is a 32-34. Do you think that is possible? I have the money and time probably to take it at least 4 more times.

I especially need some help with math. I'm taking AP Calculus this coming fall so I know the material I just can't solve quick enough. Any help or the best books?

Also, any tips for science? The problem isn't reading through the data it's just interpreting and making hypothesis. I'm a fast reader and can finish I just make dumb inferences.

I have studied with the Red Book and Grubers. Should the next book be Princetons?

Sorry this is tons of questions! But any help would be appreciated!

Dont’ take it 4 more times.
The small increase in your composite says that you’re doing something right, but not enough of it. Anyways, you have the rest of the summer before your junior year so I would suggest studying and PRACTICING the test over the summer while you have not as many academic obligations.
Try to see where your weak spots are and work on strategy. And then don’t forget to practice. Practice is key.

PR is recommended for the English and Math sections. They give a lot of strategies that work. However, from my experience, it is terrible for the reading and science. For these two sections I kind of came up with my own strategy. Practiced for 3 months and went from 24 to 29. Now I’m shooting for 33.

Good luck!
