As the title states, I am trying to learn all I can about encryption (as a Computer Science major), but my university does not offer any courses on it. I thought about paying for a specialization on Coursera, but was not sure if that is beneficial to my resume for future employers. If not, what is the best way for me to learn about, become certified in (if possoble), encryption?

Couple of thoughts… does your university offer any cross-over courses with other universities? For example, when I was in college, if I wanted to take a course that wasn’t offered at my school but was offered at a different school a half hour away, I could do that.

If you are truly just interested in learning, why not just take the free Coursera course? A certification from Coursera won’t really mean much to future employers, but if you can learn and then demonstrate skills, that might.

To answer your question, no. I asked the Dean of CS about it yesterday and he said no and the way he talked they didn’t plan to offer any courses on it. As far as Coursera, there are free courses, but they also have the Specialization, which goes through 4 courses dealing with encryption and such and I think total its like $200. I didn’t know how much those types of certificates would be worth, because me reading a book or books on it, doesn’t really show proof that I actually know it, or how well.
