Hey guys, I’m seriously considering of transferring out of UW Madison to UCSC/UC Riverside/ a couple of CSUs for next year (Fall 2020) since I’m from California, UW Madison is expensive, I don’t like the winters, I recently began to suffer anxiety attacks and I’m not feeling happy there. But I recently completely blew up by failing my calc 3 and stats classes so now my GPA is under the bunker (2.57), so yeah I’m screwed.
So my next plan is to retake those 2 classes and hopefully get my GPA up. I’m currently a stats major but now I’m thinking of dropping my major and find something else that fits me (maybe econ but I’m not sure). I might consider going back to my local CC if only it’s absolutely necessary.
By the way for CSUs am I allowed to change my major if I get into one of the schools (for example if I apply to Long Beach State as a liberal art major can I change it into econ/music once I get in?) And which CSUs would you recommend?
Any other suggestions that you can recommend?
Much appreciated.
If you didn’t apply in November then UC transfer applications for next year are closed. Also from the sound of it, you are a frosh. With a small number of exceptions, the UCs only take junior-standing transfers.
For UC’s and CSU’s, you need a minimum 60 transferable units completed by time of transfer.
With your current GPA, you might be better off coming back to California and attending a local CC and try to raise your GPA along with for a better chance at transferring to a specific CSU or UC.
Local CC transfers get priority at their local CSU. For the UC’s, in-state CC transfers get priority over out of state transfers.
Also you will need to complete the required GE’s and major prep for the CSU’s and UC’s, so you need to decide on a transfer major.
You can switch majors upon acceptance but you would still need to fulfill the major requirements for the other major at the same time prior to transferring.
