I currently have a 2.2 gpa at a community college and have 10 more units to complete (not including this fall which I am attempting 9). I am planning on applying to SFSU, CSULB, CSUF, and other CSUs. I was wondering what are my chances of getting into SFSU? I really want to transfer out of here and I have been slacking off throughout my college experience but I am getting my act together in order to transfer. My major is Political Science and I am really nervous and depressed right now assuming I have slim to no chance of getting into SFSU or any other csu... Can anyone give me any advice?

I’m in the same situation and I apply next week. =/

I wish you luck =. I really hope I can get into SFSU. Do you know anywhere I can apply to? A school that has a great educational program, good college life, and a great environment? I want to avoid the ghetto school such as Dominguez Hills

I really wanna get into SFSU too!

CSULB is basically impossible for a 2.2 in Political Science. The average accepted GPA last year for polisci was 3.65.

Which CSU(s) are in your service area? You’ll have the best chance with those.

whichever CSU u get into…i certainly should not go there…
let me know…

All i gotta say is if u slacked in cc…u look really bad no offense…
i would try csu san marcos. and do the full transfer program

I slacked really badly too and slept in most of my classes. I was worried about getting into places and stuff… I had a 3.6GPA and an upward trend along with 100% prereq completion.

I got into
CSULB(business finance)
CSUF(business finance)
UC Riverside(business finance)
UC Santa Barbara(economics)
UC Irvine(economics, but later switched to quantitative economics)
I got in everywhere I applied.

GPA boosting courses… seriously.
(2.2 * 50 + 3.8*30)/80 = 2.8

spend an extra year at a CC and take GPA boosting classes. You might be rejected still, but you’ll have a good shot at getting in SOMEWHERE with an appeal. Apply to UCR, UCSC and UCM as well.

bump…

Hey, Grape Dude - um, no offense, but you’re rude. How can one not take offense to being told: “tell me which CSU you go to so I, the smart kid (despite using “u” in place of “you”), don’t go there” ?

To Jon310 - Jon, you definitely want to take some classes that will boost your GPA before applying to any of the Cal States you mentioned. Although, I guess if you’re in the LA area (since you mentioned Dominguez Hills), you might consider CSU Northridge. By the way, don’t knock it too much if you don’t like it, I go there! I seriously hated the thought of going there but now that I’m getting further into my 1st semester there, I find it’s actually not that bad.

Hope this helps!

My son really slacked off in HS then moved to San Diego area for CC and did poorly there too. Too many fun things to do in SD. Got into CSU North.- hated the thought of going there but found that he did much better with academics there as there is not much else to do in the area. Did quite well, was awarded a departmental scholarship his senior year, and loved the department. Got an internship and a permanent job when he graduated- found that his company always looks there for recruits as they like the program. He turned what he thought would be a bad situation into a great one. Found he really liked Northridge after all…

Well, work HARD to get the GPA ^^^^^^ up! I have a gpa of 2.7, my counselor said that was a no no. You have enouph time to work on your gpa. Good luck.
